After Ruyeth abdicates, his son, Siarth becomes the Ruler of the Woodlands, but what he rules over is little more than shattered pieces of a once prosperous realm. In an immense effort, Siarth secures the wreckage of his realm and pulls Estira out of the Magical Wars that are still not settling, and after another period of strong magical barriers and almost total isolation from the outside world he leads his people into the era of hope. Tired and weakened from the effort of salvaging Estira and rebuilding it almost from scratch, yet another tragedy awaits Siarth, as his younger son, Kishay, who was chosen to be the next ruler by the sword, kills his older brother Ishra to defend his position in line for the throne from him.
Thus, abdicating like he had planned to, is much less of an option for Siarth and the exhausted King is still governing his people with all the energy he can muster, which nowadays isn't a lot.
