The River Lands

Geography

The Riverlands are actually an extention of the Western Plains, which they border in the north-east. They used to be bigger, extending into what is now part of the Western Plains, before the Magic Wars happened, because there used ti be a river more. Nowadys, the Riverlands are basically synonymous with Deya. Three great rivers, the Feyr Wàmàr, the Rahenu Kair and the Fàmel Kair , as well as the Singing Waters, a landlocked Sea, mark its borders, even though some argue that the cursed lands with the big river Evariin Kair should also be included.
The terrain is mostly flat, except for some rolling hills at the bank of the Singing Waters, where many willows grow.
The Riverlands border Mivian, Hatnar, Kaat, the Western Plains and the Cursed Lands.

Ecosystem

Much similar to the Western Plains, the soil is dark and rich in nutrients, and the predominant species is grass. Along the river banks trees grow, as well as in the rolling hills at the bank of the sea, but other than that trees are rarely seen in the Riverlands.

Ecosystem Cycles

Some birds migrate to warmer locations during winter, which tends to be very cold, and some mammals go into hibernation. During spring and early summer most of the rain falls and in mid summer, when the weather is hottest and there are many thunderstorms, wild fires can happen, but they usually aren't severe, because the population of Deya is used to them and has some very effective counter measures.

Fauna & Flora

You can find basically everything in the Western Plains in the Riverlands as well. The one notable difference is that the Riverlands are also the home of mighty willows. The predominant type of bird is the heron who preys on the various species of fish, frogs and newts that can be found in the rivers, as well as prawns from the sea. Seagulls and swans also reside there.
The sea is fed by a fresh water river, creating an estuary, which is the perfect living condition for algae and seaweed, marsh grasses, a variety of worms, oysters, crabs, and waterfowl such as ducks.
The grassland is populated by elves, deer, foxes, weasels, frogs, snakes, mice, rats, moles and many different birds. The deyans also herd sheep in the hills near the sea.

Natural Resources

Wood, grass, salt from thre sea, live stock, gold in the rivers.

History

As mentioned before, the Riverlands used to be bigger than they are today. During the fourth age they used to be at their largest, stretching all the way down to the borders of Hirea, covering about a third of what is now the Western Plains, even though a consensus as to which area the territory belonged to could never be established. In the south it bordered Azkra and included a large part of what are now the cursed lands and Pyktyrr. The nations Fjabart and Aetrin used to be part of the Riverlands, and sometimes Azkra was counted among them as well.
However, during the fifth age in the Magic Wars the area got heavily damaged and one of the rivers was fully obliterated, leaving behind nothing but smoke and some puddles. The Singing Waters were blamed for spreading sickness among the elves and humans living near it, and it got renamed as the Pestilent Waters. In the sixth age, however, the name was changed back to the Singing Waters.
Aetrin became Deya and Fjabart was dissolved, some of the survivors became nomads, others would go on and found Hatnar, over which they fought the elves of Aetrin bitterly, but won in the end, and so the borders got redrawn into what is known as Deya and Hatnar today.

Tourism

Deya has some tourism, especially for the Singing Waters and the Willow Hills, but they aren't a tourist hot spot, and most tourism is from Drifeyer and Kaat anyways, since many have family in Deya.
