Firefall Era
Summary
The First Firefall was when the moon of Aroka exploded and rained down on the planet in chunks of fiery debris. That, combined with the War of Ashes fought by great armies that descended from the sky, rose from the sea, and emerged from the earth, which began and ended in the wake of the calamity, marked the end of the Age of Ascension and a world where gods walked among mortals. The ash-laden skies blocked all sunlight, plunging the world into the Age of Ice, forcing everyone to retreat beneath the earth to escape the frost. Life beneath the earth wasn't truly an escape as these depths were already the homes of Deepfolk, Sect, and creatures forgotten by those that dwelt on the surface that raged war against the invaders from above.
Braving the surface in search of new resources wasn't uncommon for these new underground colonies, so many witnessed what is said to be the Second Firefall. There is some argument about whether this event is what brough the Age of Ice to an end or if it just happened to have occurred at the natural end of the Age of Ice, but all accounts report fiery masses emerging from the void and raining down on the world, though nowhere near as intensely as during the First Firefall. The Age of Reclamation began as the colonies emerged back on to the surface. To their surprise, beings that would eventually be called Dryn and Varyn along with a host of strange new creatures were already making a home for themselves on the thawing world, leading many to believe that Firefall events either brought or heralded the arrival of new beings to Aroka.
Many believe that there will be a Third Firefall that will either restore the world to as it was during the Age of Ascension, bring about a renewed and more perfect world, or the world, finishing what the First Firefall started.
Historical Basis
Variations & Mutation
The Third Firefall is believed to be the one that will restore the world to its former glory.
For some, this takes the form of eradicating their enemies, leaving just the "righteous" to rule the new world.
Others believe it will bring the gods back as it is commonly believed, outside of extreme religious sects, that the old gods of Aroka fell silent after the First Firefall and have yet to reemerge.
There are others that believe it will bring back the great armies of the War of Ashes. Some say that this will be them returning to rule the world while others suggest its to finish what they started and end the world for good.
And there are those that hold that the Third Firefall will fracture Aroka to its core and raze its surface beyond all hope of fostering life again.
In Literature
While many organizations maintain records pertaining to the more verifiable elements of the First and Second Firefall, very few, outside of religious sects that look forward to the Third Firefall and the change it will bring, take the effort to preserve and propagate the more mystical and prophetic elements of the events. Such sects include the Final Flame, the Godfall, and the Reforged.
