Arokan Sentient Ancestries

There is an incredible diversity of sentient species on Aroka, so much so that it is difficult to come up with a wholistic classification system for them. Here are some of the most common ones:   Anthropic Classification: This classification system breaks the major sentient species into three main categories: Anthrope, Scourge, and Anomalies.
  • Anthropes are speices that share strong resemblances to known creatures. For example, Woflkin share similar traits and anatomy with wovles except that they are capable of bipedal movement, have opposable thumbs, are capable of speech, and possess overall higher brain function. The same goes for Catkin, Frogkin, Goatkin, Oxkin, Snakekin, etc.
  • Scourge are a group of species that share the same overall anatomy with Anthropes, but lack the notable animalistic features such as claws, fangs, feathers, fur, horns, muzzles, tails, or wings. Some believe that Scourge are Antrhopes that committed some grievous sin, such as cannibalizing another sentient being, and were cursed to loss their animalistic characteristics in exchange for more a more animalistic mindset and bestial tendencies. The most common Scourge species are Ahedyn, Alxore, Gershar, Krykor, and Ruudyn, though there are some less-common outliers that are occasionally encountered.
  • Anomalies are species that don't have the shared basic anatomy of Anthropes and Scourge or, if they do, are so different from either that they fall into their own category. Often times, this is due to being somewhat similar to either an Anthrope or Scourge species, but possessing some significant deviation such as having additional limbs, multiple body segments, or an inability to communicate verbally. As their classification suggests, they are few and far between. Some examples of Anomalous species are Feeres, Gygroth, Sceda, and Tiinyaz, most of which have never been seen within the known world but are reported by adventurers that have claimed to have visited lands beyond the borders of the Consortium.
Spirit Classification: This classification system is one that sees no use within the known world. The only mentions of it come from adventurers that claim to have visited far-off lands, one in particular far to the east. Here, it is said that species are grouped into Full Spirits, Half Spirits, Quarter Spirits, and No Spirits. It is not clear by what means they determine how strong the spirit of each species is, but it is highly prejudicial and places a handful of species well above the others. According to reports, there are seven Full Spirit species, fourteen Half Spirit species, and twenty-one Quarter Spirit Species. Which species fall into which category varies but it's clear that this classification favors a small percentage of that region's inhabitants.   Ancestral Classification: This system is one of the least understood as it was used during the previous era. Only those that have devoted themselves to uncovering the secrets of past civilizations would know of it. This system breaks sentient species into tiers starting with Primary, followed by Secondary and Tertiary species. There are few mentions of lower tiers, but they are few and far between. The names of the individual species differ from modern names, so, even when translated into a modern language, they are difficult to interpret. However, it is believed that the tiers mark a degree of deviation from a prime species. Strangely enough, these is very little information on this prime species, making it even harder to try and contrast the classification system with modern interpretations.
