The Sailor and the Twins

As Hesjing formed the seas, they flowed with unrelenting might. Thrae's winds struck and scattered the water, creating waves that grew taller and taller.

With every hit crashing down, the force of the waves cracked even Edar's solid stone, creating the great seas of Argeth.

But in their shared wisdom, the Founders knew that they would have to restrain this unbridled force, or have their work be torn asunder. So through a union of Hesjing and Thrae, the Twin Goddesses were born.

Bathys, the Lady of the Deep, emerged first from the darkest depths of the ocean. Her hair was as dark as the abyss, her eyes reflecting its hidden mysteries. She commanded the currents of the deep, bringing order to the chaotic waters below the surface.

Her sister, Kymathys, Lady of the Waves, followed, rising from the crest of the tallest wave. Her hair flowed like seaweed in the tide, her eyes the color of the clearest blue sky. She danced upon the waves, her presence guiding the storms and the tides.

The calm waters of Bathys were where the slow and steady plants settled, growing in peace. Yet there were some plants that braved the turbulent surface.

The turbulent waters of Kymathys were where the fast and nimble fish settled, hunting and growing. Yet there were some fish that hid in the calm abyss.

Together, the Goddesses were able to tame the wild waters and create a balance between the extremes, so that everyone might find a suitable place.

On one stormy night, as Kymathys danced her powerful dance upon the waves and Bathys watched on from the deep, the passion of the dance made a terrible tempest form. A tempest that could tear through the sky and sea.

A lone ship, carrying a brave sailor, was caught within the storm’s unjust fury. The waves and winds dashed the ship against the rocks, and the sailor, fighting to stay afloat, called out to the gods for mercy. Hearing his plea, Kymathys appeared before him, slowing her dance, and piercing through the dark storm. With a gentle touch, she lifted the sailor from the raging waters and brought him to a secluded, serene beach, away from the crashing waves, where she nursed him back to health.

As the sailor recovered, he marveled at the beauty and power of his savior. He was entranced by Kymathys' beautiful dance, watching as her calm steps maintained the rhythm of the waves that lapped at the beach. He spent his days watching, learning about the Twin Goddesses and their dominion over the water.

Kymathys, too, found herself drawn to the sailor’s courageous and kind heart. They spent countless hours together, and their bond grew into a deep and abiding love.

Their peace was shattered when a dark force, jealous of their love and the harmony the Twin Goddesses brought to the sea, rose from the depths below even Bathys's domain. This malevolence sought to plunge the world back into chaos, shattering the calm the Goddesses had created. Monstrous waves and terrible storms, driven by this dark entity’s rage struck far onto the land.

Knowing their true duty of keeping the waters called, the Twin Goddesses faced the foreign storm. Bathys commanded the deep currents, with the plants holding on tight, while Kymathys jumped from wave to wave, her fish pushing back as hard as they could, calming the surface waters. The sailor, though mortal, refused to leave their side and followed in his ship. With his unwavering devotion and prayer, the Goddesses battled the dark force in a fierce confrontation.

The brave sailor rammed his ship against the entity, creating a large, gaping wound that oozed a thick ichor. But just as it had formed, the wound began to seal itself, so in a final act of desperation, he jumped in. In through the wound the ship had created, defeating the dark beast from within. He struggled and struggled, striking with his dagger at whatever he could find. Until finally, the dark beast stopped its thrashing and began to sink beneath the waves, beneath even Bathys's domain.

Together, they had defeated the dark entity, restoring peace to the sea and the coastal lands. But the brave sailor had no power left to escape and sank along with it. Kymathys was heartbroken as she watched the entity sink deeper and deeper. Bathys, seeing her sister's pain, grabbed onto the ichorous form and sealed it away within the darkest, most secluded depth. Vowing to forevermore protect the sailor's resting place.

To mark this grave, Bathys recreated that beautiful, serene beach, so that even in the furthest depths of the deepest abyss, the sailor could be reminded of Kymathys.
