Technoalchemy

Many things make a difference in the quality of Theeksfur. But when speaking generally, then it is the quality of the blood -- the sapience of the creature -- that determines the outcome. Sapient-sourced theeksfur does not deplete; the rest does.
— Shiv Moonsong

The process through which blood is distilled into its base magical component, Theeksfur.

Its production is, for obvious reasons, strictly regulated by the Inter-island Theeksfur Council to the use of blood from animals that have otherwise been harvested for food.

Unfortunately, the laws on what can be hunted for food vary widely within the Western Empire and on the few independent islands that remain outside of the East-West borders.

Manifestation

The process of Technoalchemy is a closely guarded secret overseen by the ITC. Only officially regulated and controlled labs may practice technoalchemy. Furthermore, they may only do so under a set of strictly enforced guidelines.

This strict regulation is meant to be a mitigating factor in the dangers posed by distilling blood into a potent magical concentration. The process is known to be technically precise and extremely dangerous. Tens of thousands of lives have been lost over the generations due to haste, carelessness, and cost-saving measures.

Inherent Dangers

The number of ways in which technoalchemy can fail seems limitless. Too much or little time, too much or little heat, too much or little exposure. Some people say that just looking at it wrong will cause it to fail.

Failed technoalchemy has only one result: it explodes and rains down a violent storm of acidic ash, poisonous gasses, and molten fire globules that stick to every surface and cannot be extinguished with water or earth.

Localization

Guidelines for Establishing a Technoalchemical Laboratory

As revised by the ITC in the year 5722 AD

Any and all locations submitted for approval to host a licensed technoalchemical laboratory (LTL) must meet ALL of the following conditions before consideration. Failure to meet any one of these requirements will immediately disqualify a location from consideration.

  1. Minimum of 25 miles from habitation
  2. Established infrastructure to support the transportation, delivery, and storage of raw materials, including blood.
  3. Access to, or additional land area for the construction of, Iwhute.
  4. Approval from the local office handling island land or resource management bearing the official imprint of the island's managing officer.

Love the whiteboard and interconnected articles. Also, the font size is a nice size! So many worlds are very tiny.   And, the disastrous effects of technoalchemy, whew. yikes! 1) explodes 2) acidic ash 3) poisonous gasses, 3) molten fire globules that stick to every surface and cannot be extinguished with water or earth.

....I think I wrote this after I listened to a podcast about the Covered Wagon Brigade and one of their songs....Napalm Sticks To Kids. I needed something dangerous enough to make scientists kill to keep it from Jirs.
