Airship
In our hubris, we hoped the airships would reduce deaths at sea. What we did not understand is that the winds among the clouds are so much more vicious and unforgiving than the winds among the waves. We have managed to bring the annual deaths down to the same as on the water. Not what we hoped, but no more dangerous than wave sailing.
Airship is an umbrella term that describes all vehicles that sail in the air. It includes passenger, freight, and mixed-use vehicles of any size that meet the following requirements:
Over the generations, airship travel has become safer and more reliable. This is due in great part to the safe regulation of Theeksfur production due to the introduction of the Inter-island Theeksfur Council.
Air travel is the preferred form of transportation for most people, while sea travel is the preferred method for goods and materials. Containers can be made to float goods in the event of a sea wreck, while people are more likely to be able to survive an air escape.
Power Generation
A number of different Technomaniacal Contraptions have been developed to keep airships aloft. Most are designed around a particular lift capacity, such as the Gravitee-420 Heavy Lift. Some are designed with the shape of the vehicle's hull in mind.
Propulsion
Turbines for large vehicles with heavy capacity, airfins for smaller vehicles.
Steering is handled through flaps, vanes, or the airfins themselves.
