Iarun, Elven Bastion

Demographics

Most of the inhabitants of Iaran are elves; the majority of them are high elves. Outsiders are not often permitted within the walls.

Government

Iarun is administered by a bureaucracy put into place by the Regent and the a council of the other elven Houses within the city.

Defences

A massive wall of smooth green stone surrounds Iarun, with watchtowers every 150 feet.

Industry & Trade

Iarun hosts the majority of elven craftsmen capable of turning darkwood into darkleaf, as well as other unique elven crafts.

Assets

Iarun is considered the wealthiest remaining elven city, with good reason, as it controls much of the trade that travels through the Darkwood. Iarun also possesses the largest remaining library of the elves, the Tel'Kirriar, or Crystal Archives, also known as the Great Library.

Guilds and Factions

Recently, a political faction calling itself the Resurgency has begun to make waves in Iarun, citing the need for the elves to reclaim their former place in the hierarchy of the world.

History

Iarun was once the largest southern outpost of the elves' empire; it was also the largest remaining city when their empire fell, and became the new capital soon thereafter.

Tourism

While many outsiders (called shemlen, or shem in Elvish) seek entry into Iarun to behold the wonders that are said to be within, very few are permitted within the city, as the elves value their privacy and security highly. Those few who are allowed in are typically not allowed to see much of the city aside from their place of temporary residence and the open markets; almost anything else requires the permission of a city official. Visitors to the city are typically required to relinquish their weapons upon entry, which are then held secure until their owners leave.

Architecture

The structures in Iarun are elven in style, with smooth, flowing designs that make the stone look like it was almost shaped instead of carved. There is wood used in the city's construction, but much of it too was grown instead of carved.

Geography

Iarun was constructed on a small hill in the Darkwood, allowing it to have a minor defensive advantage from its elevation.

Natural Resources

Iarun is surrounded by the Darkwood, making it an excellent place to collect darkwood from for the creation of darkleaf- however, those who venture out with the intention of felling trees must beware the dryads.
