Davian Flynt

Davian Nathan Flynt is a Ivailan Human, hailing from the City of Port Royal at the Ivalis Archipelago. Since a young age he's a notorious pirate and seafarer, at first as part of the infamous Solcrest Pirates before founding his own pirate crew, taking up the legacy of the Solcrest's. At one point in his career he became a Gloom-Touched, after he spent an extended amount of time at one of the Domains of Dread, the Sea of Sorrows, where he also gained his powers as a Blood Hunter.     He's also originating from the cursed "Flynt Family", which makes him a member of one the most infamous families at the whole Ivalis Archipelago. It is said for him to be the distant Descendant of the legendary Davik Flynt.   Davian is a Protagonist of the chronicle Age of Change - Tales of the Sea.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Davian is a well build, tall man in his prime years. He has a trained body after spending most of his lifetime at sea, constantly being into training and perfecting his physical shape. Since his return from the Domains of Dread he even became a bit more bulky, which also manifests in more physical strength.

Body Features

Davian's skin is white, but darkened by the sun and a bit leathery given of the constant wind and water of the sea. He has red hair, which he normally tied together to a knot behind his head, which give him a more serious and more gentlemen like look.

Facial Features

Davian had formerly deepblue eyes, which became a bit more gray, like the mists itself, after his return from the Sea of Sorrows. He also has a red beard, which he shaves every few days. Most of the time he has a strong and stoic look in his face, showing confidence and stubborness to everyone, who stands in his way, sometimes giving him an intimidating presence. Since he barely laughs, most people just thinks of him as a grim pirate, when they meet him the first time.

Special abilities

Natural Abilities

  • Touched by the Dread Domains: After he stayed in the Domains of Dread for eight years, Davian's body changed massively, adapting to the supernatural afterlife he was stuck in. He became more bulky and for that much stronger on a physical level then ever before. The same time his will adapted well to the endless suffering, which strengthens it too, allowing him to resist most mental influences that trying to set him into fear. He's also able to emanate an aura of fear himself, manipulating the power of the Dread Domain's and infuse it into others. He can do that willingly or sometimes even by instinct, when his aura reacts in the most intense moments of a battle. Since his return from the afterlife there are also signs of the gloom at his body, showing others, that he is not fully manifested in the mortal realm anymore. His shadow seems to lag a split second beneath him, not fully copy all of his movement. Also he excludes a slight smell of smoke, which can be perceived by those aware to such things. His former deepblue eyes became more grayish, but at the same time he received the ability of Darkvision, allowing him to see better in darkness then most other Humans.
  • The Curse inside the Blood: After his return into the world of the Living Davian realized, that he is not fully alive anymore and for that becoming some type of supernatural Being. He received the ability to sacrifice his own vital essence, his life force, to curse others or empowering himself. He can use this ability to strengthen his blades with some sort of elemental power like fire, frost, acid, lightning, poison or radiance. He's also able to use that vital sacrifices to activate and strengthen some sort of Blood Rites, which allows him to channel dark powers like siphoning energy from his enemies or blinding them in battle. His ability to sacrifice his vital essence also allows him to strengthen all of his body, making him capable of exceed his own physical limits and using his abilites far more often then normally possible. A bit fearful of this abilites at first Davian got teached by Celestine some control of them, even giving him more capabilities with them. She also teached him, that his abilities will develop even further and she's not able to foresee to which extent they will come. So Davian had to understand, that the only limit to his powers are his own endurance and durability. Up to now he has not fully control of this powers and still tries to test out his own limits, motivated to become stronger in the process.

Trained Abilities

  • Skilled Seafarer: Davian spent most of his lifetime at sea and was part of a pirate crew for a long time. He learned a lot of skills and is now a formidable seafarer and sailor with a great understanding for how to sail a ship and how to captain it. He's also a skilled navigator, able to read nautical maps and locate any course with the right coordinates. Since he is adapted to live at a ship and trained his techniques there, he is a capable warrior on a floating underground wavering in the water, which would give most others some sort of disadvantage. He's also a capable climber, since he learned to climb through the rigging of ships from an early age. He's also skilled in entering other vessels at sea, knowing exactly, how to enter them, without being stopped by the crew and gaining control of the other ship.
  • Swordsmanship: Davian is a skilled fighter, trained in swordplay and spending years in perfecting that skills. He's often underestimated by his enemies, since he hasn't that typical look of a swordsman, but his skills are formidable. He normally wields two swords at once, dual-wielding them in battle, which needs a lot of skills and technique to do it. He combines agility and swiftness with the lethality of two blades, always flanking enemies, looking for a weakspot to cut them down as fast as possible.
  • Alchemical Knowledge: Davian possesses some basic knowledge of alchemical tinctures and potions. He is able to produce primitive explosives with some black powder or is able to create some sorts of poison to strengthen his blade and also antidots to heal it, if necessary. He's also able in creating potions with healing capabilities or other magical effects of sort like invisibility, shapeshifting, speed, resistances and other useful things. His skills with the art of alchemy isn't deeply and he isn't able to create complex potions since he got that knowledge self-trained from his studies on board the ship of the Solcrest Pirates
  • Knowledge of the Hunter: Since he had read a lot of books and gathered informations of supernatural things while being part of the Solcrest Pirates, Davian knows a lot about the most common threats of the ocean, like undeads, fiends and fey. He knows most tales about that type of monsters, their weaknesses and behaviours and how to beat them. He also has a vast knowledge of other supernatural things like artifacts, old entities or folk tales of all type.
  • The Crimson Offering: After achieving his new powers, Davian learned through Celestine how to wield them. He can sacrifice some of his own life force to strengthen his weapons with elemental power. This technique allows him to empower his blades with poison, acid, fire, frost or lightning. Celestine also teached him some very special elemental power, the "Rite of the Dawn", which allows him to wield the radiance of the Saint while at the same time making him more resilient against necrotic powers. With time he might be able to learn even more elemental powers, becoming able to strengthen his blades in a wide array of energies to face any upcoming challenge.
  • Blood Rites: Davian got the ability to channel the dark and sinister powers of the Domains of Dread itself for a very short time. He's able to use abilities some would see as unnatural, like siphoning energy from others to strengthen himself or blinding enemies in battle to weaken them. This abilities are intensive to use and a massive burden for his own body, so he must be careful about it. But with using the power of the vital sacrifices he's able to exceed his own limits, being enabled to use his abilities even more often, then normally possible.
  • Wanderer of two Worlds: Davian died that often in the Domains of Dread, that his soul and body are not fully intact anymore as a single entity. He is capable of splitting his soul from his body temporarly, making him a spectral and ghostly figure. This gives him all the advantages of a ghost, like the resistance against all types of physical damage and the ability to pass through solid objects at will. Since this ability is extremly stressful for his own soul, he can't use that very often, but by sacrificing his life force he's able to overcome his own limits and use that ability even more, if needed.

Apparel & Accessories

Most of the time Davian wears traditional seafaring clothes, common and practical at the Ivalis Archipelago. He normally wears a shirt made of white cloth and trousers of reinforced leather, which give him some protection. He also often wear heavy leather boots. On top of his shirt he often wear a leather belt, reaching from his left shoulder to his right hip. He also wears two normal belts with golden belt buckles on top of each other around his hips. As another protection he wear a heavy, long coat, reaching down nearly to the ground, which is of fine design and give him a more impressive outlook. The coat is also reinforced with metalplates, giving him protection from attackers without the need of wearing some armor, which would be distracting at sea. On his left and right hand he also wear a ring respectively. Right hand the ring has a pirate sigil, a skull and left hand it has the symbol of the Marine Corps, but it's scratched and so nearly impossible to see anymore.

Specialized Equipment

Deepwarder & Tidebearer

Davian wields the two scimitars and twinblades Deepwarder and Tidebearer, which he named himself after creation. Both blades got forged by Lira Sovyn in Goldwater and both are made of the rare material Dimeritium, an element, that is immune against any form of magic. This allows Davian to cut through magic and magical beings alike, even attacking creatures, that not have a physical form. Later the hilt of the two blades got infused with the dark powers of Tchen, the demon god and father of magic. Through this his blades obtain the power to absorb some of his life essence to strengthen his attacks and cut with supernatural strength, but at the cost of his own life power. Since this can be dangerous for the wielder itself, this two blades are cursed and blessed at the same time.

Personal history

Early Years

Davian Nathan Flynt was born at 17th Nox in the year 3141 AoM in the city of Port Royal at the Ivalis Archipelago. He lived in the city with his mother Anne Flynt and his father William Flynt, who was a renowned captain of the Marine Corps at this time, tasked with securing the Archipelago by ensuing dangerous artifacts, destroying montrous beings and keeping the populace of the Queendom of Ivalis safe. For that he and the family as a whole were highly respected. From an early age on it became the dream of Davian to be a great seafarer and hero of the sea, like his father before him. His father teached him, that a name can be a burden and some men trying their whole lifes to live up to the name, bring them honor and shame and living with it. At this point in life, Davian not fully understood, what his father wanted to tell him, but he promised him to always honor the family name.   When Davian was six years old his younger sister Valerie Flynt was born, which he would always try to protect from any harm for the rest of his life.

The Burden of a Name

When Davian was eight years old, in the year 3149 AoM, his father William Flynt got on a new mission for the crown to secure some mysterious artifacts and seal them away for the safety of the Queendom. For that he set sail with a fleet of ships and Davian spoke his goodbye at the docks the day he started, not knowing, he would never met his father again after that day.   A few weeks later a bunch of befriended soldiers of his father arrived at the family's home, helping them to leave Port Royal and the whole island in the secrecy of the night. Davian heard stories about his father being a deserteur, having used a storm and the attack of some sea monsters to his advantage. His ship had left it's position and fled the battlefield, while the rest of the fleet got destroyed in the storm and the ensuing fight. After that betrayal against the Queendom he vanished, with all the artifacts he had stolen. From the first time on, he heard that story, Davian not believed it. He was steadfast sure, his father isn't a traitor, but got a reason to leave his position, his title and honor behind and vanished. While none others then his mother and sister believed the same and William Flynt got cursed and damned by the populace, like so many of the Flynt Family before, Davian heard the first time about the curse of the family. He started to understand the earlier lesson of his father about the importance of a name and realized, why his father desparately tried to make the family name great. He wanted to cleanse the name "Flynt" from the shame of the eons. Davian made it his life goal to fulfill his father's dream and free the name of the family of this old curse while at the same time reestablish the name of his father and show the world, that he was an honorable man and not just a traitor and criminal scum.   Together with his sister and mother he had to leave Port Royal and with the help of the old friends of his father they reached Garlis' Island, a small isle at the northeastern border of the Ivalis Archipelago. There they opened a tavern near the porttown of the same name under the guise of the name "Drake". They used that name to hide their true identity, with Anne Flynt knowing, that a man of this name was one of the closest and most respected friends of her husband in all his years at sea.

Part of the Solcrest Pirates

Nine years passed, where Davian lived life as a waiter in the family tavern at Garlis' Island. A lot of seafarer of all colour arrived over the years at the tavern and Davian heard a lot of tales and stories. He came to the conclusion, that pirates are the true heroes of the sea, not feeling the same closeness to the Queendom of Ivalis or the Marine Corps like his father, because of the accusations against him and the family as a whole. He planned to become a pirate as soon as he would be old enough to set sail, finding out the truth about his father and reestablish his name and the family's name.   When he was 17 years old, the Solcrest Pirates anchored at the coast and stayed at the tavern of his family. They were different from most other pirates in their behaviour, their mindset and honorability. Their captain Sir Francis Kenneth impressed Davian the most, since he was not only a charismatic leader, but a man of true honor and nobility, despite the fact of being a pirate. He remembered Davian a lot of his father and so he wanted to hear all the tales and stories of this pirate. When the Solcrest pirates set sail again, Sir Kenneth asked the young boy, if he wants to join their crew, which Davian happily agreed to. He had no idea at this point that Sir Kenneth knew about his true identity and asked him just because of that. Davian left behind his mother and sister, promising them, that he would reestablish the name of the family and that he would return one day as a hero of the sea.   For the next years Davian was part of the crew of the Solcrest Pirates. There he befriended a lot of the crew members, but got especially close with the Half-Elf Lucya Windris, which was another young recruit and canoneer of the crew and the smutje Bendris Mondrak, a Duergar and veteran pirate, who was sometimes harsh and brute, but also a good friend and loyal comrade. He even got a respected companionship with Dragan Kortiz, the first mate of the ship, which was known as being someone to not easily become friends with.   At first he worked as a cabin boy at the ship, but Davian was motivated to become a true pirate. He worked hard and learned a lot, which got noticed by Captain Francis Kenneth. After a while he spoke with the boy about his intentions and motivations and because of the trust, he earned from him, Davian told him about his true family name, the burden and the curse he wants to lift. Sir Kenneth was impressed by that answer and decided to take the young pirate boy under his wing. In the following months and years he tutored Davian in the art of swordplay, making him a good swordsman and the sword the weapon of choice to Davian for the rest of his life. He also told Davian about the secrets of the ocean, the supernatural threats, monsters and artifacts, which are out there, about powers and entities of old, hiding beneath the waves and pagan gods and primal powers, always trying to take back the Ivalis Archipelago and all of the Seven Seas from the mortals. Davian learned the philosophy, that pirates are the true protectors of the sea, because they are not bound to any laws and their freedom is their greatest weapon. He also learned, that the Solcrest Pirates saw it as their duty to life up to the honorable rules of the Pirate Codex and being steadfast protectors of the realm. Not because they want some honor for it, but because it is their duty and necessity. Davian, deeply impressed by that philosophy, started to read books, learning as much about the seas and there supernatural mysteries he could and practiced his swordplay at any free moment, wanting to become a true pirate and an honorable member of that crew, ready to fight evil, whenever it would arise.

The Mysteries of the Dead Man's Fleet

In the year 3167 AoM the crew of the Solcrest Pirates heard the first time of the Dead Man's Fleet, a mysterious supernatural fleet of ghost ships, which shall arrive in the realms of the mortals from the afterlife through a mysterious mist, massacring seafarer and entire ships to take up their souls and vessels to bolster their ranks. Recently more and more pirates talked about the arrival of that fleet at battlefields or other places, where massacres happened, killing all of the survivors in cruelsome ways and condemn their souls to eternal torment on board of their ships. Sir Francis Kenneth saw it as their duty to find out more about this stories, revealing the truth about this tales and putting an end to this threat if necessary.   They started their research, visiting the places where the Dead Man's Fleet had arrived, speaking to survivors and read a lot of old tales and stories. So they could find out, that the fleet came into existence through the ambitions of an unknown pirate captain, which wanted to create an immortal armada and to achieve that set sail into one of the Domains of Dread, the Sea of Sorrows to dethrone the Darklord of this place and took the might and power to himself. He failed and became enslaved, together with his crew. Since that moment the Dead Man's Fleet was born, arriving through the mists of the afterlife at any place, where cruelsome massacres near the sea happened, called forth by the scent of blood and death at the ocean, to pick up the souls and ships to bolster the ranks of the fleet, strengthening it.   Finally the first mate, Dragan Kortiz, brought up the information and rumors, that the Dead Man's Fleet had been seen near Baradis Island a few times now, so it would be the perfect place to research and to find out why the rift into the mists opens and how to seal them for good. Sir Kenneth let his crew set sail and they arrived in the small porttown of the island a few days later, where they started their research, while took quarters in the town itself.

The Price of Betrayal

After a few days at Baradis Island Dragan Kortiz set his plans in motion, by letting hired mercenaries and some members of the crew, which he brought to his side, massacring the people of the town, while he killed Sir Francis Kenneth from behind. While the remained loyal crew members of the Solcrest Pirates and the attackers fought a vicious battle in the burning town, Dragan Kortiz left the town and got aboard the Solstice, the Crew's ship, to prepare to follow the Dead Man's Fleet in the mists, when they would arrive.   His plan seemed to came to fruition, with the rift into the mists opening and the Fleet arriving. But Dragan Kortiz had no idea, that Davian also entered the ship, ready, to fight the treacherous first mate and put an end to him. He had destroyed the oar of the ship, leaving it uncontrollable, while it enters the mists of the Sea of Sorrows. To make sure, Dragan can't escape, Davian got himself into a duel with the first mate, while his two friends, Lucya Windris and Bendris Mondrak should help to evacuate the survivors of Baradis Island. A duel ensues between the two pirates on board, but Davian hadn't the experience or strength to win and he finally looses, getting thrown overboard as revenge that he thwarted the plans of Kortiz.

Suffering in the Sea of Sorrows

While the Solstice and the treachereous first mate vanished inside the dark mists and the ocean to an unsure destiny, Davian stayed at sea, in the middle of nowhere, also trapped in the Sea of Sorrows. Unable to reach any land in this ocean of damnation, he was stuck in the afterlife. He started drowning the moment his strength to stay at the water's surface left him, but since he wasn't in the mortal realm anymore, he was not able to die. After a while he got resurrected, returning to the surface with renewed strength, just to stay there, with the futile hope of finding some land to get safe. After a while his strength left him again and he started drowning again. Soon enough it was clear, that there was no way for him to escape that grim fate. He was stuck in that Domain of Dread, hidden beneath the mists of the afterlife to suffer for all eternity.   Eight years passed while Davian swam through the endless ocean, drowning and getting resurrected in an endless gruesome cycle. But while most others would have fallen into despair and fully lost their minds, Davian stayed steadfast. He was sure, that this wasn't the end of his journey and that he would find a way to escape his fate one day. He also not a single day regret his decision to confront Dragan Kortiz since he was sure, it was the right decision to do. For the moment he accepted his fate, stubborn and still with his dreams in mind: to reestablish the family name and the honor of his father when he would return to the world of the living.

The Embodiment of Hope

Finally, after eight years, he got found by Celestine, the Saint of Hope. She saw him in the Sea of Sorrows and got impressed by his will to not just getting lost to damnation and with the stubbornness and the belief, that his fate would change to the better. This are the deepest embodiments of her teachings of hope and radiance. So she finally contacted that lost soul, offering him to lead him back into the world of the living and be his guiding light afterwards, when in return he would become her harbinger at the Ivalis Archipelago, spreading her words and teachings of hope and living that out, als a bulwark of hope in dire times. Davian agreed.   Guided by the light of Celestine he was finally able to leave the Sea of Sorrows, which was possible, since he wasn't a soul of a dead one, damned to staying there. He returned to the Ivalis Archipelago and saw the sun again after eight years. His stubbornness and hope had finally paid off and strengthened Davian's belief to never give up.   The first half year after his return to the living world he stayed in hide, realizing, that his extended staying at the Domains of Dread had fundamentally changed him. He not just was much stronger in body and soul, but also could emanate an aura of fear to his enemies, wielding some of the powers of the Dread Domain itself. He also wasn't fully part of the living world anymore, which allowed him to sacrifice his own vital essence to put strong magical effects in use. Celestine helped him to get some first understanding of his new powers and he learned to control it. He also realized, that with the loss of the Solcrest Pirates and all his friends and his mentor he had also lost his spirit as a pirate. Not being sure, how to achieve his goals anymore and how to fulfill his pact with Celestine, he stayed in hide, trying to understand himself again.   Around half a year later he heard rumors, that the Marine Corps took Edward Bartholomew, the keeper of the Pirate Code, prisoner and wanting to execute him at Torretidal. Guided by Celestine, who told him, that he must visit this execution to find his spirit and inspiration again, he left his hide, returning into the light to fulfill his destiny and achieve his dreams...

While trying to find a new passage he meets Sirius Wavestorm, a Triton warrior in exile, who also wants to leave the island and bands together with him. They follows a hint of Wylla Wanderlust, a Mousefolk navigator and cartographer, who tells them of a captain, that would be able to bring them to their destination. Believing this captain to be Diego Montez, Davian agrees to help him to deal with some members of the Greenblood Pirates, who had stolen his amulet. Afterwards he finds out, that Diego is also just a stranded pirate, but nonetheless can help Davian by bringing him on a ship of the Marine Corps. Together with Sirius and Diego, Davian leaves the small island on his way to Torretidal.   At the ship and while on their journey Davian meets Ainra Silverbreeze, a member of the legendary Dreadwater Pirates, who is a prisoner of the Marine Corps. When the ship get's attacked Davian and his fellow comrades tries to defend the lower decks against the attacking Sahuagin, but they fail and get overwhelmed. They get saved by Ainra but all four strands on a lonely island. With the knowledge of Davian and Diego as pirates and the help of Sirius they are able to leave the island on a small boat to try to reach the next isle in search of help. On their way they get's attacked by creatures of the depths, that brings small Kraken and other sea monsters with them. Davian and the other's get saved by Ainra, who sacrifices herself and leave behind a small artifact, which later would be revealed as the legendary Compass of the Lost Sea. Davian takes the item in his possession to honor Ainra's last wish, which is obviously to keep the item safe.   The three pirates then lands on another jungle island, where they finds the small settlement of Einsammuschel, inhabited by Locathah and led by the Tortle Rukon Mossshell. They agree to help the inhabitants of the island to show them, that they are no danger to the village and carry out some duties of the village like cleaning the guardian crab, repairing some roofs and killing some Amphisbaena. While doing that they also meet Sirena Stormsong, a Water Genasi and adopted daugther of the leader of the village. After finding out the village is tyrannized by the Greenblood Pirates, Davian convinces Sirena to bring him and his comrades to their hideout to get information and possibly finding a way to escape the island. When arriving there, Davian is able to enter the cave of the pirates in the bay and therefore witnessing the negotiations between Marcus Sanbalet, the first mate of the Greenblood's and Vraenir Viperclaw, who is part of the Deadscale Pirates. Led by Areus Varkal they are trying to conquer the whole Ivalis Archipelago. After Sanbalet rejected the offer to join their ambitions and should get killed by the minions of Vraenir, Davian helps him to escape and to repel the attackers, with the help of Sirius and Sirena. After finishing off the attackers, the ship of Areus Varkal shortly later arrives in the bay and the whole island starts to get torn apart by some unknown power. Davian and his comrades tries to reach the small village again, just to find the inhabitants slain. He and the others are able to save the lives of Diego and Rukon, but the others are dead. When the Marine Corps shortly after arrives, Davian let them take him and the other's prisoner to escape the island, which get's completly destroyed shortly after. On the ship he meets Hayami Shigami, a Vice-Admiral. After playing a party of chess he is able to convince her of his intentions as a seafarer and manages to spare his friends from prison and even get's help for the mortally injured Rukon Mossshell.   Later on the pirates arrive in Torretidal, where Davian, with the help of Sirius' watery abilities, uses a trick to help Marcus Sanbalet escape imprisonment at the docks, despite Sirena's protests. He is convinced, that they will need his help and that of the Greenblood Pirates in the future. Afterwards the pirates discuss their own future and finally decide to band together as a crew. Their efforts of buying a ship are short cutted though, because of the price, so the pirates decide to work for the armory of the city at first to earn some money. They get tasked with killing a monster, threatening the outskirts of the town and being a problem to the supply of Torretidal. After confronting that monster, a Flail Snail and killing it, they not only get the payment for this task, but also sell the shell of the monster, earning a massive amount of money. It's still not enough to buy a ship, but then Davian and Sirius meets Ava Drake, captain of the Drake Pirates. After learning his name she shows interest in Davian and wants him to meet her again at Scum's Landing. By taking that as a promise, she helps the crew to buy a ship. As part of their deal with Ava they also need to bring a letter to Dracon Blackcross, one of the Reaver of the Storm, meeting the impressive swordsman for the first time at the Amphitheatre of the Island.   Davian and Sirius also let a seer taking a closer look at the artifact of Ainra Silverbreeze, finally opening it after finding out it is not cursed, just to find a compass inside the small box. Later on, they meet again with Wylla Wanderlust, who also arrived in the city. Davian negotiate with her to bring the small Mousefolk to Stormreef Island, her next destination, when she give the crew one of her maps. Finally the pirates join the procession bringing Edward Bartholomew to the Coral Court Amphitheatre, where he shall be executed. It's a glorious moment and Davian indeed finds his inner strength and courage once again, hearing the last words of the legendary pirate. He then witnesses the return of the Ol' Tahm and the destruction of the Pirate Codex, which happens immediately after the death of the keeper of the code. In an attempt to safe the person, who heard the true last words of the code keeper, Calliope Brightsong, Davian manages to free the imprisoned Half-Elf and escaping the turmoil in the aftermath of Bartholomew's death, but taking his pocket watch with him. Davian brings his comrades, including Calliope Brightsong, back to the docks and to their new ship, leading them out of the bay through the upcoming storm and manages to get them out at the open sea, in his first act as captain of his own crew.   After they had escaped Torretidal, the Compass of the Lost Sea activates itself, teleporting the sleeping crew to the Plane of Water, where they stranded on the destroyed remnants of Menelaris. They meet some survivors, stranded at this dimension the same way as the pirates and get convinced by Iscariot, the supposed leader of this people and in truth a Devil and agent of the Ol' Tahm to travel to the sunken temple of a Medusa, to bring her down and end her reign of terror. On their way to the temple they must travel through a swamp, where strange creatures from the depths attacking them, taking Sirena Stormsong prisoner, which Davian, as her captain, can't prevent to happen. Led by the hermit Chepeku, living at the island, they travel to the ruins of a fallen city in the swamps in an attempt to save Sirena. There they confront the minions of Nero'Mneros, an eldritch evil, which influences the mind of the pirates. Davian is close to safe the Genasi, which is unconscious at this point, but fails in the last moment, as his mind get's overwhelmed by the influence of the eldrich horror. Mindcontrolled by the monstrous being it sends Davian and Sirius to the temple of the Medusa, to kill her. Yashara, the Medusa, repel the attackers and is able to free them of the mindcontrol. In the last moment possible Davian and Sirius are able to stop her friends from leaving the island, since they had believed, their captain and first mate had lost their minds for good.   The pirates band together with Yashara and Chepeku, confronting Iscariot and revealing the true plans of the monstrous Devil, who used the pirates to enter the sunken temple and get into possession of some part of an ancient artifact, the Crown of Neptunia. Iscariot escapes, leaving behind a monstrous devil, which fights the pirates and get's killed by them. Afterwards the pirates assemble the surviving members of the community and leave the island with them, Yashara and Chepeku in an attempt to return to the material plane. But their efforts seems to be fruitless, since there seems to be no escape from the Plane of Water. They also gets betrayed by Calliope, who knows, how to proper use the Compass of the Lost Sea, but not telling the pirates about that. She use the compass to escape the plane and leave them behind, starving and near death. After weeks, Davian decides that they need to change something, otherwise they will die at this place. He set a plan in motion, with the help of Sirius and Diego. Together they are able to catapult their ship at the waterways visible at the skyline, diving into it and returning at the waterways between the dimensions.   There they meet the Hana no Kaizokudan, the crew of the legendary pirate Onira Yamato. After telling her, what happened at Torretidal and what threat of the oceans is upcoming, she helps the small crew to escape back into the material plane and agrees to bring them to an island, where they can get answers about anything, that lastly happened. On their travel to that island, Davian befriends Onira Yamato and her first Mate Kaito Takahashi, who further trains him in swordplay while at travel, helping Davian to improve his technique as a swordsman. Shortly before arriving at the island Yamataro Island, the two crews get attacked by sea monsters once more, led by Iscariot. Davian, Diego and Sirius manages to save their ship from total destruction, but then Sirius dies in an attempt to help the members of the Hana no Kaizokudan repelling the sea monsters. Davian get's the chance to speak with the soul of Sirius one more time, who wants to find peace instead of returning into the mortal realms. As a captain Davian respects this wish and let go of Sirius, loosing his first mate and another part of his crew.   After arriving at Yamataro Island, Davian negotiates with some Korobokuru to repair the heavily demolished ship. In one of the taverns at the island, he then unexpected meet again his old friend Bendris Mondrak, smutje and former member of the crew of the Solcrest Pirates. The two old friends soon band together once more, follow Onira Yamato to a meeting with Dracon Blackcross, the leader of the island. He inherits the reports of his immortal father, who might have the knowledge about what is going on at the oceans right now. To show Dracon, that they are worthy of his time, they at first have to pass the trial of the volcano, which turns out to be a travel to a pocket dimension, build by the mind of his deceased father, where he still helds control of the island. There the pirates are much stronger and improved versions of themselves, which gives Davian a glimpse of his possible future as a pirate captain. After saving Onira from a temple infested with Yuan-Ti and rescuing Kaito Takahashi out of the fortified city of Marisakura, they meet a Dhampir by the name of Aezra, who helps them to collect the two pieces of the Liannar Star, the object they need to bring back to Dracon. After fighting and destroying Kaoren, a mighty Bronze Dragon, the pirates return into the world of the living, taking Aezra with them, since Davian promised her before to not leave her behind.   They bring the Liannar Star back to Dracon, where it get's revealed, that Aezra is his long lost sister. Since he can't handle her return, he outcasts her immediately. But he keeps his promise and Davian and his friends getting access to the archives of Mortius Blackcross. So they are able to find out the truth about the three seals, that keep the Ol' Tahm sealed away, the importance of the Pirate Codex and the war, that Areus Varkal is about to bring to the Ivalis Archipelago. Davian plans to set sail to Scum's Landing, informing the Pirate Lords of the upcoming war against Varkal and the true schemes behind that. He also wants to keep his promise to Ava Drake, wanting to reveal the truth about Francis Kenneth, his former captain. Together with Bendris, who joins his crew to honor their old times and Diego Montez, the last remaining member, he is about to set sail. He also takes Aezra Blackcross into his crew as the canoneer and also invites Wylla Wanderlust formally into the crew as navigator and cartographer, what she accepts.   The crew continues their journey, passing by Pelaris Island, where a massive fortress of the Marine Corps stands. The island is also the armory of the marine and so Davian hopes, they will find some mighty weapons or armors to improve their equipment. At the island, they impersonate themselves as explorer and get hired by the marine to deal with a mysterious disease at the island, melting the infected from the inside and killing them. They follow the trace of some monstrous slime beings to a cave near the city of Puerto Diamante, hidden beneath a waterfall. There they destroyed some slime creatures and a follower of Jubilax, who wanted to bring his monstrous master into the world of the living. While returning to the city after completing this task the crew speak about their potential and how unique they are among other pirates. Davian brought up the idea to resurrect the Solcrest Pirates once more, bringing back the dreams and beliefs of Francis Kenneth. But before a final decision is made, the crew get into the bombardment of the city by Areus Varkal and his men, who are attacking the city and the marine base.   While Diego and Aezra return to their ship in an attempt to get it out of the bay, Davian and Bendris tries their best to reach Wylla Wanderlust, with the intention to bring her back to the ship too, since she wasn't with the crew out of town, but in the academy of navigation, deep inside the city. On their way to the academy they try to save some inhabitants of the town from attacking Triton warriors, but since being weakened from their massive fight with the followers of Jubilax before, Davian and Bendris can't face this threat. After Bendris had fallen at first, Davian tries his best to bring down the enemies, but in the end, he just buys some seconds for a little girl and her injured mother to escape. He then get's struck down too, facing his death once more...
Season II: Dawn of the Solcrest's

Education

Davian never got some professional education. He got teached at home by his mother and father in his early years and also learned a lot of different lessons from the customers of the tavern his family later kept. Because of that he is not educated well in most resorts, but have some type of knowledge in a vast array of fields.    When he became a pirate, he learned the ways of seafaring, sailoring and navigation as part of the Solcrest Pirates. There Sir Francis Kenneth became his mentor, training him in swordplay, which he perfected in some ways, making him a formidable swordsman. From his mentor he also learned a lot about the supernatural of the world. This was the first time in his life he read books to achieve more knowledge and so he gained a lot of informations about supernatural things like artifacts, undead's, devil's, demon's and much more. He also learned to brew some explosives and even create poisons and antidots to his use.

Employment

Davian Flynt for long years was a waiter in the tavern of his family where he had grown up. At the age of 17 he joined the crew of the Solcrest Pirates, becoming a pirate himself. As such he became a sailor and seafarer, which he is to this day.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Davian was able to become a pirate like his ancestors and got tutored into becoming an honorable seafarer, who follows the Pirate Codex, living out the true legacy of being a pirate.    He also survived his extended stay at the Sea of Sorrows and the endless suffering, not loosing his mind, which many others would have. For his will to live, to survive and to hope he got safed by Celestine, which led him back to the mortal realms and to a new destiny. He also achieved some supernatural powers himself after his return, which shall help him to fulfill his dreams.

Failures & Embarrassments

Davian was unable to safe the life of his mentor and fatherfigure Sir Francis Kenneth, which got struck down from behind at an evening in a tavern at Baradis Island. He might never forget the moment, he saw the betrayal happen and wasn't able to prevent it. He blames himself for not being able to see through the treachery of Dragan Kortiz earlier and deeply believes, that his mentor would still be alive, if he was a better pirate.    He also was unable to take revenge on Dragan Kortiz, as he destroyed the oar of the Solstice and fought a vicious duel with the treacherous first mate, bue he wasn't able to win and in the end lost the duel. While he stayed at the Sea of Sorrows, he believed, that Kortiz shares his destiny of being a lost soul, but after getting saved by Celestine she gave him some hints, that Kortiz might not be trapped for all eternity too. He has no idea, if that is true, but if it is, he knows, that justice for Sir Francis Kenneth has not being fulfilled and so he sees it as his duty to put Kortiz down and exact the law of the Pirate Codex to the treacherous first mate one day.   Davian failed to fulfill his duty as a captain to protect his crew member, when loosing Sirena Stormsong to the influence of Nero'Mneros. He had promised the Water Genasi before, that she could trust him and his comrades, wanting her to fully become part of his crew. After she got taken prisoner by the eldritch horror and his minions, Davian took a desparate attempt to free her and nearly was able to reach her unconscious body and free her tortured mind. But in the last moment his own mental strength failed him and he succumbed to the influence of the eldritch horror himself, becoming a temporary slave to him. After getting freed of the mind control, Sirena was gone. Up to this day Davian lives with the burden of knowing, that Sirena being endless tortured in the grasp of Nero'Mneros, while he is unable to do anything against that. He blames himself for his own mental weakness that day. He nothing more wants to help her to keep his promise and free her body and mind, but he still not knows, how to do that, leaving him helpless, while his crewmate continues to suffer in endless agony.

Mental Trauma

He often remembers the last moments of Sir Francis Kenneth, dying in his arms, where he gave him the promise to live the true life as a pirate to the fullest, being proud of every aspect of it and never giving up to achieve his dreams, since all pirates are dreamers. This words are haunting Davian often enough, since he is not sure, how to fulfill that promise.    After leaving the Sea of Sorrows, Davian developed a very strong version of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Whenever he get's into a situation that triggers his mental traumata, like mind manipulations, the feeling of drowning, deep fear or the feeling of helplessness, he again sees the dark ocean of that Domain of Dread before his eyes, he barely was able to escape. In such moments he nearly loose all his strength, becoming a pale shadow of himself, unable to do anything. At such moments he isn't the proud and confident pirate anymore, but a mere shadow of a man.

Intellectual Characteristics

Davian is a smart man, despite the fact, he never got some proper education. He has a vast knowledge of seafaring, navigation and sailoring, being able to sail a ship properly and being a captain himself. He also got a lot of knowledge about more supernatural themes, since he had learned a lot about the different types of monsters, threats and creatures at the Ivalis Archipelago. Davian always makes good use of his knowledge and experiences of the past, leading him out of a lot of dangerous situations. He's also well known to use his intelligence to improvise, using given things to his advantage to overcome obstacles. By all his intellect and experience he is not a planner or strategist, but more a man of action, prefer doing things and adjust to the situation then planning the long way. In fights he uses his abilities and powers to abuse weaknesses of his enemies and taking advantage whenever possible. Being an honorable fighter to him not means to fight like a knight. Davian follows the old pirate rule: "It's just about surviving and winning, no matter the tricks or techniques to use. Every pirate fights unique!"   His stoic believing that he will be able to achieve his goals and his stubborness are the reason, he is not very wise. Davian constantly puts himself in dangerous situations, which can easily cost his life, being sure about the fact, that he will survive, as long as he has the will to do it. More then once this behaviour had put him into horrible scenarios and made him suffer. But Davian is fully aware of this fact. To him this is part of the pirate way, doing impossible things and dreaming about even greater impossible deeds. He wants to reach the horizon at any cost, living life as a pirate to the fullest and that means to not bend by borders more wary persons had stuck. If he dies along that way, he had tried his best and never stepped back, so he has nothing to regret at the end.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Davian's motivation is to find out the truth about the fate of his father William Flynt and what happened in the night, he vanished. Davian not believes in betrayal and that his father is "just another cursed Flynt". He wants to find out the truth and reestablish the name of his father at all costs.   Another motivation of his is the dream of cleansing the name Flynt of their curse. To achieve this he wants to become an honorable seafarer and protector of the Ivalis Archipelago, living out the true legacy of piracy, like his mentor Sir Francis Kenneth teached him. He also wants to be a harbinger of hope in the name of Celestine. He made a pact with the Saint, since her goals and his dreams are about the same. He deeply wants to make the name Flynt heroic and legendary again, establishing it as a sign of hope to everyone at the Archipelago.   Davian is not fully sure if Dragan Kortiz, the treacherous first mate, was able to leave the Domains of Dread too. But if he shall find out that he escaped his fate, he would stop at nothing to execute the laws of the Pirate Code on him, taking justice for the death of this mentor Sir Francis Kenneth, so he shall be able to rest in peace.   He had seen the horrors caused by the Dead Man's Fleet firsthand and knows, that this horrible fleet of the damned is still out there, lingering in the mists to take the souls of more poor seafarers and inhabitants of the Ivalis Archipelago. Since he knows how it is to be another cursed soul in the afterlife, he would do anything to lift the curse of the Dead Man's Fleet, free the Damned, that are forced to be part of it and end this reign of terror once and for all, if he ever should get the possibility to it.   After Davian returned from the Domains of Dread, he found his spirit as a pirate again after watching the execution of Edward Bartholomew in Torretidal, hearing his last words to the world. With this inspiration and the realization that the Ivalis Archipelago needs someone with the ideals of Francis Kenneth, Davian decided to hold up the legacy of his former captain and mentor by rebuilding the shattered crew of the Solcrest Pirates. Together with his former crewmate Bendris Mondrak, who shares his philosophy, he is willing to build up a crew, that live to the ideals of Francis Kenneth for the future of the Archipelago.

Likes & Dislikes

Davian deeply loves shanty music in all types, even if he is not well into singing himself. Since he was a child he loves to hear the stories of great seafarers, adventurers and heroes of the sea through this songs. It motivates him to his own adventures, so one day there would be songs about his own deeds and his own life, which inspires others to great deeds too, continuing a cycle of dreamers at the ocean.    His favorite food is shellfish in different types of making. He also likes the taste of good fried salmon, flavored with exotic spices.   Davian dislikes all types of wine, because of the less taste of alcohol compared to rum, grog or whiskey. He not understand, why "noble" persons always prefer that type of drink. In his mindset, it's just "Berry's Piss".

Virtues & Personality perks

Davian is a simple man, but have some inherent charisma. This gives him the characteristic trait of motivating everyone around him to greater deeds. Even in the most dire situations his optimistic attitude and behaviour never fails and inspires others. This makes him a formidable captain and leader of a crew. Person's are more willing to follow his lead because of this, which allow his crew to achieve things they never believed would be even possible.    His greatest strength and the most positive aspect of his person is his unshakable belief in his own strength and abilities and that he will achieve his dreams and goals at the end. He never looses his hope, not even in the moment of defeat. Davian knows, that setbacks are part of his pirate way and sometimes hurt, but he deeply believes, that he is still able to achieve his goals as long as "he is still there". This beliefs and sometimes stubbornness helped him to not loose his mind in the Domains of Dread, where most other's would have given up. It drives him forward and is his motivation to stand against all threats and horrors the Seven Seas would brought up against him. It's also an inspiration to other's, fueling their own mental strength to stand against any difficulties, making Davian a beacon of hope in dire times.

Vices & Personality flaws

Davian is fully obsessed with the idea, that a name can be honorable as a title or a burden, someone has to wear. From an early age on, he was shaped by the curse of his family name and the tales and stories that are told about the Flynt Family. After he learned, that his father tried to end the family curse, but seemed to have failed, he made it his own burden to fulfill that dream, so that future generations of Flynts not have to share this burden anymore. This mindset influences everything Davian does and more then often blends his evaluation of a situation or make his doing fully irrational or even dangerous.

Representation & Legacy

Davian is a member of the Flynt Family and so infamous and cursed by his name alone. Many pirates and even other inhabitants of the Ivalis Archipelago have a negative view on him just because of his name, when they meet him for the first time. Because of that he often tries to hide his family name to avoid this situations, since he wants to bear his name proudly and for that just want to fulfill some heroic deeds, which would get in touch with his name before he fully take up his legacy.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Sir Francis Kenneth

His former captain, when he was part of the Solcrest Pirates and his mentor. After the loose of his father Sir Kenneth was a fatherfigure to Davian, which saw his potential as a seafarer and pirate and teached him the true ways of piracy and freedom. For years Davian learned the arts of swordplay, sailing, navigation and gained a lot of supernatural knowledge from his mentor. Since his mentor died trough betrayal, Davian tries his best to hold up his legacy by living his whole pirate life according to his teachings and philosophies. He also wants justice for his captain, believing, that he just finds peace, if Davian is able to fulfill this last deed, required through the Pirate Code for him.

Lucya Windris

A young Half-Elf, which became part of the Solcrest Pirates shortly before Davian. She was canonneer and later quartermaster at the ship and deeply shared many of Davian's beliefs of the pirate life. The two became best friends in the years, they were part of the same crew, dreaming about making their names immortal and part of the legends and tales, pirates would tell to others. Davian saw her the last time at the battle at Baradis Island, where he instructed her to help the populace and get them to safety. Since he got lost in the Sea of Sorrows for eight years afterwards, he never found out, what happened to her. He deeply hopes to find her again and recruit her into his pirate crew to continue the legacy of their beloved captain Sir Francis Kenneth.

Bendris "Ben" Mondrak

The grim Duergar is a veteran pirate and former smutje in the crew of the Solcrest Pirates. Davian first got into closer contact with him when he got punished with galley work, after he failed his duties on board because preferring his sword training over the work he had to do. The Dwarf loved his stoic beliefs and dreams in an instant and Davian was able to take a look behind his sometimes grumpy facade, where he found a goodhearted man, that wants to live a life in freedom and beside that also had his own seemingly impossible dreams and goals he wants to fulfill. In the following years Davian often helped him in the galley and they had more then one adventure or good evening together. Davian lost contact with him at the battle at Baradis Island, where he instructed him to help the populace and get them to safety. After he got lost in the Sea of Sorrows afterwards, a long time he was unable to find out, what happened to Ben, but he deeply hoped to find him again and recruit him into his pirate crew as smutje, since Ben is one of the best friends Davian ever had. This hope got true at Yamataro Island, more then eight years after they got separated, where they met again, either by sheer luck or the guidance of Celestine. Bendris accepted to become the smutje of his new pirate crew instantly and since then became one of the most trusted members of the crew and a backbone to Davian as a captain. Both of them share the same beliefs and Davian knows, that he can trust Bendris at the fullest in a world, where this is not always the case and where scheming and intriguing is just as normal as breathing.

Dragan Kortiz

The former first mate of the Solcrest Pirates became a good and well respected friend to Davian after he got under the wing of their captain. More then once Dragan Kortiz helped him to train his skills with the swords and even teached him some lessons in navigation and sailoring. They never were that close like he was with his other friends, but Davian respected him as his superior and deeply trusted him. So the betrayal of Dragan hitted Davian even more and to this day he not fully understood what happened that day. While in the Sea of Sorrows Davian believed, that Dragan was also trapped there and so got the punishment for his betrayal, but through Celestine Davian got the hint, that Dragan might not be trapped in the Domains of Dread forever. If he ever would return into the world of the living, it would become Davian's foremost goal, to enforce the justice of the Pirate Code at the treacherous first mate and maybe finally get the answer to the question, why he betrayed everything they had as a crew.

Hana no Kaizokudan

While returning from the Plane of Water, Davian and his small crew met Onira Yamato, one of the Legendary Pirates of the Seven Seas and her crew, the Hana no Kaizokudan and got saved by them. They spent a few weeks on the ship of that crew before reaching their next destination and so got into close contact with their beliefs and philosophies. Despite their imbalance in fame and power, the two crews became good friends and formed a bond, which deepened even more, when Sirius Wavestorm, the first mate of Davian's crew, sacrificed his own life to help protecting the Hana no Kaizokudan and their ship. While normally a bond between pirate crews is just of diplomatic nature, this two crews shares a connection of trust and respect. They watch each other as friends. Onira Yamato and her first mate Kaito Takahashi are one of the few pirates, Davian fully trusts after the recent events, knowing, that he will have their backs, when he is about to fulfill some impossible deeds, which makes his way at the ocean far more easier.

Dracon Blackcross

Davian met the Reaver of the Storm the first time in Torretidal, where he got saved from the Marine Corps by him. Later on, they met again at Yamataro Island, where Davian was able to pass the trial of the volcano and gaining some respect from the grudgy swordsman. Davian was able to take a brief look behind the facade of the stoic Dhampir, seeing a good man with the best intentions, but the inability to show it to others, since that would make him weak. After Dracon decided to not hunt Davian and the others down, beside he got tasked with that, he became somewhat of a silent ally to the crew. He even entrusted Davian a family heirloom to bring it to his sister Aezra Blackcross, which led to her joining Davian's crew. He showed Davian his trust in this way, since his sister is one of the most important relationships to a man, who not have that much to loose.

Xenithra

The mysterious Wizard, who had woven one of the sigils that keeps the Ol' Tahm banished beneath the ocean met Davian after his unlikely death by the hands of some triton warriors at Pelaris Island. She saved his and Bendris' soul, before they got devoured by the riverdevil himself. She even offered to resurrect them by sharing her own lifeforce with the two pirates. They agreed but this act bound them to the sorceress. If she dies, they also will die again. So Davian and Bendris became unlikely protectors of the mysterious woman and it became one of their most important goals to ensure, that she not get's killed by the Ol' Tahm, since that would mean their death too.

Ava Drake

Davian met Ava Drake the first time in Torretidal. After she heard his family name, she was deeply interested in him and told Davian, that her father, Sir Francis Drake and his father, William Flynt, were good friends before they both vanished. She made him promise to meet her again at Scum Island and helped him to get his first ship as a captain. Later on, Davian got the information, that it's possible, that Francis Drake, former captain of the Drake Pirates and his mentor, Sir Francis Kenneth, are the same person. Since that, Davian wants to meet Ava again to get some answers, realizing, that he maybe shares more similarities with her then he ever had believed.

Family Ties

William Flynt

From an early age on William Flynt, his father, was a paragon to Davian, a hero and he wanted to follow into his footsteps. As a child Davian not fully understood why his father tried to be a hero of the sea, making his name well known and beloved by the people, but when he grew older, he realized, that William tried to end the family curse and showed the whole of the Seven Seas, that the Flynt Family is not just a bunch of monsters and damned souls. The supposed betrayal of his father destroyed Davian deeply on the inside and the young boy needed years to overcome that loss. But from the first day on he not believed, his father betrayed the Queendom of Ivalis just because he wanted to gain wealth or power. He deeply believes, that there must be a reason he sacrificed all of his dreams and everything he had achieved up to that day. It is one of Davian's biggest goals to find out, what really happened in the night of the betrayal of his father and to reestablish his name in the eyes of the world.

Anne Flynt

Davian's mother, Anne Flynt, always was a kindhearted and motherly person to Davian and his younger sister, but after the loss of her husband she got some inner sadness, which she always tried to hide, but Davian saw it nonetheless, when he grew older. Like him, she never believed that William Flynt betrayed the family and all of his dreams thoughtless and deeply believed, that something horrible happened. But she not thought, she would ever get an answer to this questions and accepted the fact, that William is gone and she would have to take the blame for it. Her sadness is another motivation to Davian to reestablish the name of his father since he not wants more, that his mother finally can conclude with his absence. He left her behind at Garlis' Island with the promise of ending the family curse and set sail to find the answers Anne needs to finally got back her inner peace.

Valerie Flynt

Davian's sister, which is six years younger then him and for that has no memories of their father William Flynt, since he left the family before she was old enough. Davian told her a lot about their father and later about the family's curse and she started to share his belief, that their father would have never gave up all of his dreams and achievements for simple wealth or power. The siblings often spoke about their father, imagined what might had happened in the night of the betrayal and told each other stories about some heroic deed William Flynt might have fulfilled. Davian promised his sister he would find out the truth one day and would set sail to reestablish their father's name. He not wanted his sister to do the same, because he feared about her safety. Valerie is the example and motivation to Davian why he must end the family curse so other members of his family in the future can live a better life, not plagued by their infamous and cursed name any longer.

Religious Views

Calia

Like all seafarer Davian is a believer in Calia, the goddess of storms, disaster and the sea. He prays to her for safety at the ocean, good weather and the wellbeing of his ship and crew. He not often does offerings to get her permission or her benevolence however, because part of him believes she is the reason of the curse of his family name and for that the burden he has to share. He respects Calia and her domains nonetheless and is even willing to show her the respect she deserves as a goddess, but he not want to become another Flynt, that got tricked by her into some sort of servitude or damnation and for that he not fully trust her, knowing, that her mood is inconsistent like the sea.

St. Celestine

The Saint of Hope found Davian as a lost soul in the Sea of Sorrows and was impressed by his unwillingness to succumb to his dire situation and not loosing his hope to get freed from his fate. Because of that she saw him as the perfect harbinger of hope to help her bring her word to the Ivalis Archipelago and all the downtrodden people there. She rescued Davian and helped him to understand his new abilities and powers, before she send him out to his mission of bringing hope and the radiance of the saints to the Seven Seas. She even enhanced his abilities with some radiant powers to help him struck down all the damned beings, that would threaten the inhabitants of the archipelago. She is some sort of mentor to Davian, a partner and his inspiration to continue his journey, while he at the same time is her champion and ironically even her own hope to make the Ivalis Archipelago a better place, where hope and radiance can bloom again.

Social Aptitude

Davian most of the time is a strict and serious man, which rarely smiles or laughs. To others he often acts intimidating at times or atleast as someone, who make clear the first moment, that he isn't up to some lighthearted fun. The look at his face always shows confidence and determination and points up the thoughts and words of hope and belief, he always has to offer. Often enough his behaviour is just a facade to show others, that he is not just another dreamer or lighthearted idiot, but determined to fulfill his goals and dreams in life. He knows, that only the strongest in body, mind and will can achieve their dreams and he deeply wants to be that one. He also enacts that inner strength to lead his friends and followers into a bright future. He understands his role as harbinger of hope to St. Celestine and he also knows, that someone just believe her teachings, told through him, if he is the example, others can follow.

Trivia

  • The character of Davian is loosely based on the character of James Flint from the TV-Series "Black Sails". For that reason, the character's look is also based on that of the actor Toby Stephens, who played the role in the series.
  • Davian originally was planned to be a Warlock because of his pact with Celestine. That was changed into a Blood Hunter in the creation process of the character, because he also should be a swordsman and for that the fighting capabilities and darker tone of the class fitted better for his backstory. He then got the specialization of the "Order of the Profane Soul" at first, but this was also changed into the "Order of the Ghostslayer" early on, because of the better fitting to the character. Finally his pact with Celestine remained as an aspect only in the roleplay, but nonetheless stayed an integral part of the story instead of mere mechanical rules.
  • With the new edition of Dungeons & Dragons being published in Autumn 2024 Davian's subclass was renamed. It got changed from the "Order of the Ghostslayer" to the "Order of Salt & Iron" which fits his pirate theme even better.
  • Because of his background story, it is confirmed, that Davian died an undefined amount of times in the Sea of Sorrows over the duration of eight years, before he got saved. It is impossible to say in detail, how often he died, but if it was every day, this would rise his death counter to a number around 2.920 times. This fact makes him the character in all of Arceiron, that most often died and got resurrected.
  • His first name is a derivation of the name of Davik Flynt, which descendant he is. Because of that it's also a derivation of the original name of "Davy" from the name of the mythological Davy Jones.
