Ysand

Together, through fire through frost. The human spirit is indominable.

Appearance

Ysand is depicted in old artworks and tales, as a young man in his mid twenties. A man of fair skinned hue and curled chestnut hair, with two eyes that burn with radiant golden flames. Odd to his embers, Ysand is no brute though. Rather, his body is explained as lithe and muscular, yet smaller than most men.   He is adorned with a simplistic bronze half plate covering his chest and shoulderguards, with a black shirt underneath. Along with matching greaves and boots metal clad by his knees. The chest guard also has a buckle and leather strap across it, which serves as the holster for his blade.   Beyond his odd eyes, the only part of him that stands out above the norm, is his weapon of choice.   A rusted old blade that could barely cut is always at his side. Its hilt is carved from mahogany and clad in gold and rust. The ancient runes which stretched up the rusted iron made obsolete from the weathering.

Divinity

Ysand is the patron of honour, justice, radiance and fire. He is a popular divinity among paladins and considered the core god by the people of the Golden Dunes, even though he is far from the strongest or most ancient ascendant of the Carelian Pantheons.   In fact, he is not even considered the eldest nor most powerful being of his own Ysandrian pantheon, as that title is held by his beloved uncle Ophalmitrus.   Ysand is not a deity for those that seek power and ambition, but for those that crave order and stability in their lives. His commandments ring truth not only to warriors, but the average civilian as well. To rise brave each morning and together toll ahead for a brighter future.

Blood of Ysand

The gift granted to the most pious and noble worshippers of Ysand, is known as a condition named Gilded Blood or Goldveined, among many other terms for it.   The condition paints an individual's blood in a brilliant yellow colour that slightly glimmers when spilled. It is also inherited to an extent, where all the children of a gold blooded individual will be birthed with slightly less potent powers. A gift which can be either enhanced or extinguished depending on the purity of the growing child’s heart.   This sacred blood is also directly tied to gifts such as longevity, incredible resistance towards the elements, resistance against disease, increased strength and speed along with a vast increased potency for fire and hallowed magics.

Heavens Edge

A blade forged by the angels as a gift to Carelian. Later granted to his son Ptyrien to guide his way through the march against hell.   Though the rust covers what is believed to be the ancient relic, Ysands sword is said to be the selfsame blade the divine hero used to smite down devils with. This belief also happens to be the myth behind the Ysandrian sword symbol, which can be seen on most Ysandrine crests.

Lore

Ysand, often referred to as Ptyrien in Peregon, was in legend born the first child and son of Carelian, the mythical first human to have been created by a union of angels and demons. Now transcended known as Carelious the Creator.   The young boy was taught the blade early in life, as part of the first natural generation to serve as reinforcements in their parents' great war against both demons, and another humanoid race known as the nephilim.   During the great betrayal of hell, abusing mortal souls to tip their scales in favour against heaven, Ysand proved more able with mind than sword.   Cutting a deal with the nephilim and the arch-angel Azrael, the nephilim were made mortal souls and granted the promise of rebirth. In turn, Ysand drew power from their very essence and was made an ascendant champion with powers that outmatched even the most powerful of angels. Although only for the time before his purpose was fulfilled.   Soon after the rite was fulfilled, Ysand would lead a host of divine spectres, mortal men and angels into a direct assault through the realms of hell. Cutting the chains that kept the infernal worlds latched on reality off, before he cast the entirety of hell down into the abyss.   At the end of his crusade, Ysand was betrayed by the angel Samael, who saw his chance to inherit the new realm. Murdering Ysand, the man’s soul was cast to hell along with the nephilim that should have been released.

From the Ashes

Little is known of Ysand’s time in the depths of hell. Common interpretation of the events however follow Azrael tracking his own parted essence into Samaels new realm, where the angel successfully rescued the stolen souls.   This act would have allowed the soul of Ptyrien as he was still named, to be reborn again a mortal man. Now granted the name of Ysand.   This man eventually became the founder of the Golden Empire and their patron that unified the human tribes against a vicious horde of beastkin, securing the futures of generations past in an ever growing civilization built on honour, justice and brotherhood.
