Throne of Babel

“Once it was a seat of his power. Now, the false god slumbers beneath the crypt he carved by himself. Lost. Stripped from power. Left to decay as life flourishes up above. Alas, deep beneath the dunes his power yet stirs, and when the long night falls he shall break his bonds forevermore. I hope that dusk is never to come.”

The Seat of Orincian Power

The Throne of Babel can be found within the regional capital of Orincia. From the seat found at the flat peak of this central pyramid, their high-legata rules with a steel grip and an iron will. Overseeing the defences and the well-being of one of the Golden Empire’s most embattled provinces.   The actual physical throne serves as a conduit of power, which draws magic from the land and into the one who sits upon it. Significantly enchanting their spells in a small area around the city of Mitraxia.

Architecture

Brick upon brick of iron forms the shape of the pyramid structure. The Throne of Babel is, unlike the other pyramids of Orincia, made out of metal. At the bottom layer, a large entrance is held up by steel pillars. Within lies the barracks of the Orincian royal guard, along with a staircase down to the catacombs.   The central parts of the pyramid are made like one big tall staircase that encompasses the entire building. Small holes can be found throughout the structure, where large and ancient copper wires stretch into the upper parts, making it look as if the pyramid was covered in metal snakes.   At the top of the pyramid, the throne itself is distinguished by being fully made out of the copper wires that run through the upper parts of the building. It is also from them that the magic courses.

Containment

Beneath the Throne of Babel rests the eldritch entity from which the building was named. To ordinary civilians, this creature is but a mere myth and the name only serves as a mockery of the cults that seek its powers. Even among the soldiers, the vast majority except for the Orincian elite of the elite, only see it as logical that the royal barracks are close to the legata herself. She is after all the one Ysand chose to uphold the vigil over Mitraxia and ensure the Orincian people thrive.   Only a secretive sect of priestesses are allowed to enter the catacomb, to fuel the barriers that hold Babel in perfect stasis. His powers are nearly fully mitigated by the substance known as the Essence of Brilliance, which is why they pour it into the engines that keep it trapped in a holy mist.
