The Shallow Lurker is said to look something like a tree, with four arms branching from its canopy. The creature has no neck or head, but instead has an eye and noseless face placed on their upper torso.
The creature's eyes can be found in the center of their palm, elbow and upper arms. Giving them a total of twelve foul orbs that are on constant vigil for victims.
They move with the help of a serpentine tail, which is both fast and agile in water, and surprisingly quick on ground.
This beast is the colour of bloated blue and decayed green, with purple eyes. Those who claim to have seen it, describe the sight as a massive corpse, which crawls its way forth on its hands. One which perpetually drools with stomach acids, which gives the mouth an illusion of a festering wound.
Described as the apex predator of the Penumbra Woodlands, though this alone does not make justice for the creature. It does not only crave to feed for sustenance, but for slaughter itself.
Entire villages near the river, at which this creature has been seen, have been found empty. The homes were wrecked and the scrap covered in its acids. Only bones were found of the victims. Left, as if a massive snail had swept over them and dissolved all soft tissue.
It is thus believed that this creature is not only highly intelligent, but kills as much for hatred or pleasure, as a need to sate its hunger.
There is nothing of the natural order which justifies the existence of the Shallow Lurker. Where it goes, only destruction follows in its wake.
Many believe that it is not a being which is endemic to any region, but an affront to nature. An evil amalgamation which has malformed from the echoes of the tormented elemental spirits. The ghosts of natural order that once thrived in a time where the Penumbra Region was not covered by an all time gray sky.
The creature has only ever targeted isolated river villages, or slaughtered herds of animals which are too close to the waters. Hence, it has not managed to cause any significant damages to its surrounding lands.
Even though it is not an immediate threat to Luciano Penumbra’s plans, he still hired the Occult Hunters, despite their enemy status, to hunt the creature.
While the squad of four survived the ordeal, it is said that only a single eye of the being was blinded. After suffering several wounds and a near death, the Occult Hunters retreated.
