“Behold, upon the dark skies shines the eye of our sacred divines. Agapanthus, they who blossom the spread of our timeless gift upon these lands. Through the will of our abyssal masters, the world shall return to what it once was. A sacred paradise in which reality is no longer a chain around our necks, but ours to command.
Through the light of Agapanthus, the dark and light shall become the same. Through the tendrils of Agapanthus, the soil shall rebirth the dead. Through Agapanthus - nevermore shall we know tribulations and pain.”
-Cultist of Agapanthus
The Other Moon
When one gazes up towards the sky, only ever one moon should be visible up high. A radiant and round, yellow glowing body which brings high tide and disappears with the rise of the sun - bringing low tide.
Agapanthus is the second moon that rotates around Arcathia, but unlike the first celestial body - which exists in the same time and space as that of Equilibrium, Agapanthus rests within an interdimensional rift in the void. A moon within a black hole ruptured from unstable magic, creating an eldritch pocket realm that causes it to both exist and not at the same time.
It is only when one threads upon grounds that are infested with abyssal taint, or in the presence of multiple powerful individuals that harness the powers of the dark idols - that the ill moon can be seen.
Sickly Radiance
For those that have seen Agapanthus - it is an eldritch nightmare that is impossible to discern by the naked eye, whether it is a living entity or a celestial body. A light blue darkness with hues of green shine from it at day, while waning to a deep purple at night.
Corrupted areas beneath the moon’s gaze are directly affected by the radiance. At day, infected nature such as infested animals, floral abominations - like the Thornchildren, and warped entities once holy waxes in strength, while the rest wanes.
When night falls the creatures from beneath the tides and above the clouds are blessed in its dark lavender light. This is why creatures such as the Glôh’krakh mostly act after dusk.
Countermeasures
The Moon of Agapanthus is not something that the average individual in the world knows about. Even most militaries, and many officials and nobles in high places - have no clue that it exists.
It is a well guarded secret as its knowledge would cause widespread panic throughout all the lands of Equilibrium and breed multitudes of dark entreaties. An event that would significantly empower the eldritch gods.
This is why Occult Hunters are at least tolerated in most places of the world, and even pardoned from practicing heresy if it means the destruction of abyssal sources.
Even tyrants that covet the powers of these dark idols recruit the hunters to ensure their realms are stable - as they themselves fear what would happen if their power was stolen by beings far more wicked than most evil kings and queens.
Beyond the Occult Hunter’s, there are also several other institutions made to fight back against the tainting glow of the wicked moon.
The Allseers of Barrkad are a textbook example. Studying the cosmos and stars through great telescopes while leading specialized anti-abyss forces into voidzones to weaken its grasp on the world.
