Hellhoof Wrathblade

“Tonight we die in glory, for there is no better way to perish than in the service of hell. In this life I am a mere soldier, in the next I will be a prince among demons.”

Origin

The Wrathblades are the common grunts of the Bloodherd. Their numbers are primarily made up out of satyr swordsmen that show no inherited gifts within the arcane arts, and are thus subjected to intense training in close combat mastery.   These warriors may seem basic at a first glance, but it is not because of nothing that the Bloodherd has clung to power in spite of the surrounding worldpowers. One does well not to underestimate what a full troop of fifty Wrathblades are capable of.

Appearance

A lorica segmentata which is resemblant of the Golden Empire’s legionary armour, protects the Hellblades. Though made out of bronze rather than steel, with leather belts holding feathers and bone fetishes fastened to their torso and thick animal hides that run down their shoulders like cloaks. The hides are painted scarlet in a dye made out of blood, serving as a challenge to their would be enemies.   Within their hands, they wield large wooden circle shields with bronze bindings and cores, along with spears and shortswords.

Combat Intel

Strengths

  • Valiants: Satyr are not traditionally known for their bravery, yet the Hellhoof tribe find deep shame in retreat. They rather fight until the last drop of blood leaves their veins, believing the more honorable their death, the grander shall their infernal afterlife become. This makes it hard to break their resolve.
  • Melee Mastery: Wrathblades are drilled from a young age to become competent swordsmen. While they are not considered elites, they often have an advantage against other melee infantry within close combat clashes.
  • Heavy Armour: The heavy plating of the Wrathblades’ are only a notch weaker than the steel of the Golden Empire’s common legionaries. This grants them great survivability against flanking attacks and lesser beasts.

Weaknesses

  • Armour Piercing: The weight of their armour and the tightness of Wrathblade formations make them prime targets for armour piercing missile units. If caught too far away from the enemy, they are likely to be shredded before reaching melee range.
  • Aerial Units: The Wrathblades completely lack any valid ranged abilities or magical spells. Against aerial units that can bombard them from a distance, they are doomed to be destroyed.
  • Sacred Magic: The hellish influences which the Wrathblades worship has tainted their blood with chaos. While it contributes to their melee mastery, it also makes them weakened against the divine. The radiance directly burns at their skin and fills them with the one force sure to shatter their morale and make the satyr turn tail and run.

Special Ability

  • Shield Wall: With a given command of a warband’s warchief, the Wrathblades can raise their shields in formations above their chests and above their heads to mitigate the ranged damage they take from missile units.
