Hellhoof Boneseer

“The bones speak to us of the path we must thread. Through chaos, the lords of hell shall deliver us from the softskins’ lies.”

Origin

Within the mystic circles of Bloodherd, it is the Boneseer that serve as the religious heads of the herd. From birth, the satyr that were chosen by a mark of hell are taken aside and trained by their elders to become the spiritual leaders that guide their kin onwards to glory and slaughter.   It is they that predominantly commune with the forces of hell and decide what sacrifices are to be made. Through their faith in chaos, they are granted diabolical boons to unleash against their foes, as well as infernal blessings to endow their comrades with.

Appearance

The Boneseer clothe themselves in crimson stained leather robes that are decorated with the bones of beast and mortal alike. Upon their back an entire wicker basket of skulls and femurs are stored. These bones are all carved with sigils of hell and withered to a point that they are brittle enough for the satyr to crush in their grips, thus unleashing the spells.   Within their free hand, they carry gnarled wooden staves that are decorated with more bones, dried flowers, and wrapped in thorny growths.   Upon their heads rest once horned animal skulls, which have been hollowed out to make room for the satyr’s own protrusions.

Combat Intel

Strengths

  • Morale Booster: As the spiritual leaders of the Bloodherd, the appearance of the Boneseer alone can strengthen the morale of their troops. Especially that of their lesser Hellhoof tribesmen. This also makes them critical pieces for the Bloodherd to defend, or their spirits are much more likely to shatter in the face of defeat.
  • Potent Caster: The Boneseers wield primal and borrowed magic, but this must not be sneered at as a weakness. Even with only a few spells in their repertoire, the tricks they have often compare with Barrkad’s own battlemages - marking them as just a step below master arcanists.

Weaknesses

  • Melee Weakness: The Boneseer were not made to face the dangers of combat head-on. Thus, even weaker militia would destroy them in an open melee battle. Especially as Boneseer numbers only range to eight a troop.
  • Ranged Weakness: These casters are the most at risk against sharpshooters that fixate on them. As they are trained in ritual and magic, their bodies are often far more frail than that of their lessers. This means that only one or two bullets ever need to grace a Boneseer to neutralize their casts. Permanently.
  • Poor Mobility: The bones and equipment that the Boneseer carries is actually heavier than that of the Hellhoof Wrathblades’, despite the latter being a heavy infantry unit. This makes it unviable for the casters to run, even on short distances, as the uneven weight around their back destabilizes their hooves.

Special Abilities

  • Bonewall: From the dust of a bone-sigil, the limbs of the dead are risen from the battlefield and turned into shields for the living. Soaking mainly that of missiles that are either stopped or lose their penetrative power when going through the magicked flesh.
  • Marrowmend: The marrow of a bone-sigil is strewn across the battlefield to supernaturally facilitate the marrow within the living. The Bloodherd soldiers from exhausted to mortally wounded start to rapidly regenerate, at the cost of potential malformations and bone mutations wrought from the unnatural speed. On the flip side, it can mend organs.
  • Hellblast: The sigil-wrought skull is crushed in the name of the Bloodherd’s demonic masters. Granting the Boneseer a free cast of a wide comet-like fireball which burns with the heat of lava and explodes upon impact. This ability can however be mitigated by killing the caster before the spell hits the ground. Causing it to combust before striking the ground.
  • Summon Lesser Demon: The Boneseer sacrifices one of their sigils, along with one live soul - usually of a Warmandrill - to summon a lesser demon onto the battlefield.
  • Skullbolt: Rather than crushing one of the sigils, the Boneseer unleashes a skull into the enemy lines through the form of a homing missile. On impact, it explodes with the force of four grenades.
