Doomcults

Doomcults

Origin

Doomcults have existed before since the first person peered at the skies and saw the glimmers of the stars. To comprehend that all things have an end but also beginning. To fear change, as it always destroys but also always creates.   These cults can be born from thin air. From a handful of individuals unified in a religious conviction, to entire organizations forged from politics.   Wherever there is a doom, there will always be someone who loses their mind to the idea. It does not necessarily be the end of the world, and seldom is. Most often these groups are fringe zealots that wield fear as an instrument to halt the changes of an era.

The Change

Doomcults that emerge against or for a change are most often political, rather than theological or philosophical. They are also among the least harmful of the groups. Usually forming as nameless extensions of larger organizations that take to the streets of civilization. Preaching about the negative or positive consequences of a change. Usually to an exaggerated level.   The more harmful variety are the cults that assemble to plan violent attacks against opposing institutions. Many examples of these groups are temple sects of established faiths that do not believe their spiritual leaders are extreme enough. Resulting in violent attempts of usurping their betters, with a zeal that makes them happy to die for their goals.

The Destruction

Destruction leaning Doomcults are both the most violent and least efficient of the cults. They spring up when enough people develop a hatred towards anything. Then destroy themselves in the process of destroying the thing they hate.   The Abyssal Idols generally tend to be behind these cults, as they secretly sow an unnatural distress into people with a weakened willpower. Aiming to push them over the edge. To be used as a sacrifice for the abyss wicked ends.   The forces of hell are also known for using Doomcults of destruction to their ends. These groups tend to swiftly disappear, as their random violence makes them targets for immediate extermination.

The End

Cults that believe in the end of all things are significantly rarer than the rest of the Doomcults. Mainly, they consist of religious fanatics that are mostly harmless as they are non-violent. However, many of them do not strictly believe the end is nigh, but use the argument to try and manipulate more people to join and seek liberation in their faith.   In most parts of the world, these groups have been outlawed as fearmongering and harming the legitimacy of the religious establishments. Which has led to the creation of entirely new religions that want to usher the world into the end times. An impossible goal, without the aid of the Abyssal Idols.
