Clockwerk Automaton

Origin

If every life is worth an infinity, then every war is full of incomprehensible loss. The Clockwerk Industries’ automatons were manufactured to protect the borders and keep the peace, without spending human lives as a currency for the sake of stability.   These soldiers that suffer no pain or exhaustion are supposed to be expendable and terrifying sights that cause the enemy to surrender their arms in the face of an unfair fight.   Even though it was the Technocrats of the Camille family that invested in the creation of the first automaton troops, the idea behind them was solid. Less death means less grief and more people that do more work. Effectively leading to less problems and more time for Serena to read her books of dubious origins.   This was the idea, but reality proved to answer differently to this new technology.

Combat Protocols

Ranged Directive

Often considered the ordinary directive for a Clockwerk Automaton. These machines are magically wired to use a mix of long to medium ranged weapons - and usually have far higher accuracy than an ordinary person.   The drawback towards the ranged directive is how smoke, fog and gas can easily cloud an automaton's sensors and prohibit them from firing entirely. Even if an enemy is standing right in front of them, as long as there is no clear threat perceived, the machines remain dormant.

Melee Directive

While the ranged directive is far more used than the melee one - the Clockwerk Automaton is still more efficient at close quarters combat than at a distance, as their simpler melee directives are not nearly as faulty. Their enemies just prefer to keep a good distance to the mechanical soldiers, hence why it is the less used of the two.

Defensive Protocols

Non-Lethal Directive

A specialized directive in which a Clockwerk Automaton uses electric force to neutralize one or more targets to both protect the culprit and their victims from further harm. This protocol is mainly used in civil service as a backup to guards that grant them their commands.   This protocol is considered the most effective of all the automaton directives as the machines have proven far less susceptible to manipulation within closed city streets, when backed up by professional officers.

Protector Directive

A directive in which the automaton directly uses its metallic body to blockade an enemy or serve as a temporary cover for their living comrades. This is considered the rarest directive, which is meant to be used only as a means to preserve the lives of soldiers and sacrifice the expendable machines.   In reality, creating Clockwork Automatons is more expensive than sacrificing the poor for the greater warmachine. Hence, many officers in the Westport army will never use the directive - even when the Camille family, despite the many skeletons in their closets, have given the order.
