Castevedian Eliminator

Origin

Death surrounded the Eliminator. His comrades had already fallen by the hands of their mark. A horrendous beastman, known as a Hellcaller due to their diabolical power. A savage brute that had ravaged the ranks of the Revenant Legion, leaving countless men charred beyond recognition. The Eliminator’s breath was steady, as he skulked through the deep woods of the Palmlands. A man that, despite being fully clad in heavy plate, moved with deafening silence.   His target was impossible to miss, as heat waves ripped the air around the satyr. The creature lavished in solitude, its teeth ripping skin and flesh from a severed human arm, as they gorged themselves on the limbs of a legionary.   The man remained unfazed in spite of his odds. As the elite of the third legions sharpshooters, he would live and die by his creed. He held his block rifle down against a nearby rock. Hooking the attachable axe into the hard surface to stabilize his aim when lining up the shot. The ironsight focused in on the Hellcaller’s centre mass, as the Eliminator squeezed the trigger.   The bullet intersected with flaming steel, as the satyr swept past the shoulder of the Eliminator with blinding speed. The ringing sound of clashing metal met with the scent of blood, as the hardened soldier's mask was torn in half.   A grave visage defiantly stared at the creature, as blood pooled from the Eliminators cheek. The twin axes of the beastman followed up the lightning strike, but were met with a block from the rifle’s haft. With a cloven kick to his gut, the man was sent reeling back with his teeth gritted. Caught off balance, he spun on the balls of his feet and narrowly swatted away another burning hack with his wrist bracer. A slash from the second axe then drew a cry of agony from the Eliminator, as his dented plate now pressed into his side.   His breath was hoarse and ragged from the blow, and his sight clouded from the pain - yet only a primal instinct was stirred within the Eliminator. He could taste the blood of his morality, as it was coughing up from his lungs. With a gurgling roar he spat the gore out and rammed his shoulder into the satyr. Forcing the larger creature back with brute rage as he hewed the axe-rifle overhead and broke down the Hellcaller’s cross-block. Despite the lack of air entering his lungs, adrenaline pushed him into a furious series of side to side sweeping strikes. Suppressing the Hellcaller into a flurry of backpedaling parries.   The exposed eye of the Eliminator glowered with hate, as the Beastman stomped their hoof into the ground. A boiling tremor burst from the earth and scorched the Casteviedan man’s armour, while the quakes threatened to cast him onto his back. The executioner's cleave then fell as the Hellcaller struck - aiming for the bloodied man’s neck.   Reflexes had already taken over, as the Eliminator heaved the butt of the rifle up and broke off the killing blow by crushing satyr's wrist. The retaliation was merciless as he thrusted the stock into the ribs of the bastard. The veins on his throat now pulsed frantically as the Eliminator bared reddened teeth and bellowed out a cry of havoc. Throwing his entire weight in a senseless one-handed carve with the firearm’s ax-attachment. Cleanly severing the satyr's skull from his shoulders. The man’s cape now blew with the wind towards the fallen Hellcaller. Rifle held in a shaken hand - like a reaper of souls awaiting the impact, as the corpse crashed into the ground.

Promotion and Training

Eliminators stand out as legionaries that have both proven themselves to become Sharpshooters and then gone over and beyond the expectations of what is required of them. There is no training needed for an Eliminator, as they are acknowledged as the best marksmen of the legion and even competent at holding their own in melee combat. In short, these combatants have nothing left to prove.

Weapon

Lloren Block Rifle - Axe fitted

The only weapon that an Eliminator needs. A single shot heavy bore sniper rifle that shoots with a calibre grand enough to fell an elephant with a single precise hit. As the weapon is heavy and recoils like the kick of a horse, it is best fired from a prone or seated position.   The axe head allows a calm and calculating sniper to transform the prior imbalance into a strength, as the top heavy blade can be used as a stabilizer. It also makes for a surprisingly effective melee weapon capable of punching through plate due to its weight, sharpness and quality.

Armour

Casteviedo Heavy Raiment - Reaper Ornament

The Eliminator wears a full lorica segmentata, in the green and brown colours of their legion. Beyond the plate chestguard, bracers and reinforced straps protecting their knees - the Eliminators wear steel skull caps covered by a green hood and mantle. Above their face, they wear a shadowed steel mask with the shape of a skeletal face - carved with golden ornaments that decorate the protruding features of the depicted bone.   It is this mask and hooded cloak which makes them stand out from the armour of the average legionaries. Serving as a reminder that these fighters are to be feared.

Tactical Intelligence

Strengths

  • Elite-Slayer: A skilled, well armed and well protected unit that focuses on enemy elite units. Can punch far above their own weight to fell monster and hero units.
  • Terrifying: The reaper visage of the Eliminator boasts a merciless appearance, weakening the morale of their enemies for every kill.
  • Casteviedan Wrath: Unyielding morale and loyalty. Fights harder for every wound, seeking to die a martyr. Fallen Eliminators increase the morale of their allies.

Weaknesses

  • Eliminators Focus: Weapons meant for killing singular monstrous targets and assassinating enemy champions render them slow and ineffective at fighting mass infantry.
  • Elite: Experience and training make Eliminators few in numbers, meaning only a handful of squads can be fielded on a frontline.

Tactics and Logistics

Manpower

The Casteviedo III Revenant Legion currently has ~8.000 Eliminators fielded. A number which might seem disproportionately high for half a million legionaries. As the guerrilla legion of the Golden Empire, they are both renowned and infamous for the amount of elite snipers they are capable of churning out. Many which do not only serve Casteviedo, but work in squads near and far to take out the deadliest threats towards the Auric Legions’ infantry.

Leadership

Eliminators by average work in a turma squad of twelve and receive their orders from a Decanus. While decorated, the role of an Eliminator is seldom ever to lead any forces beyond acting as a pointman for their own crew. In extreme conflicts they may fight within a contubernium of a hundred Eliminators, commanded by the most decorated of Sanctus.   As each Eliminator carries an officer rank they take orders from Centurions or higher military officials. Within the command chain, their role is considered too elite for any common Decanus or Optio to know better than them. Especially since they are in a sense a type of stormtrooper that requires full freedom to lead and act on their own instinct, to avoid lethal obstructions.

Support

Eliminators receive their main support from Kennel Masters and Venatores that use beasts of war to spot their targets. They also receive backup from the legion’s backbone military that may often wait for them to take out significant threats to the infantry before attacking en-masse. These units may also serve as extractors that go in to aid a retreat - if the mission goes south.
