Faerie

Once a proud and mighty folk, faeries inhabited most of central Aradeia, living in perfect unity with their environment, Mostly settled around the woodlands and the mountains close to the mountain range of the Dûngar and Elethien elves, faeryfolk was well-known and appreciated among adventurers and tourists alike. Gnomes and faeries were both leaning towards a natural understanding and coexistence with nature. They learnt to merge Fairo with animalistic and floristic vocal patterns.
Therefore, some faerypeople used a particularly melodic tune in their everyday speech or leaned towards a blasting, bird-like voice. Some even had a breathy, raspy voice, reminding of the wind whispering.

Over time, it were the gnomes that developed a more human-like resonance for everyday speech and introduced knock patterns to speak to their people. There are dictionaries for both the knock patterns and the animalistic influences in faerie speech. They can be found in the Academy of Lorla and the Grand Libraries of Dânmaer and Sithaline.

Scholars of faerie are quite adapt in understanding the sounds and patterns in faerie speech. Unfortunately, this language will never truly return to the world of Aradeia, since its speakers have been eradicated during the war of the Bloodthirst King.

Writing System

Faerie uses a combination of Fairo (common) letters with pictograms based on flora and fauna. The combination of both makes it rather difficult to understand for the rest of the omni. Some scholars are able to decipher their code and shared the information with the public, if needed.

Phonetics

Apart from the animalistic and natural sounds embedded into their speech (think: wind sounds, the imitation of rain pattering onto leaves, the rustling of wings), they tend to 'ey' sounds as 'ah' and roll their 'r's.
The gnomes that were in close contact to the taller races leaned more towards human speech. Some of them stuck to the rolling r, but are otherwise very close in their speech patterns.

Tenses

Gnomes and faeries generally prefer to stay in the present tense. Even though they live longer than most omni (usually between 250 and 500 years), they believe that it is important to stay in the present to react correctly in the face of nature. Nature changes with each moment and so do we, they believe. We should never focus on past or future alone.
