Solar Punk

Written by Pookas Kreations

This is one of the main sectors of technology that the Sky Gnome cultures use in the Skylands. It is a combination of bio-tech, solar, wind, and aetheric, with magitech mixed in. Some call it Aero-Symbiotic Technology or AST.     It is characterized by being bio-integrated, modular, highly repairable, and self-regulating. It rejects heavy, earth-bound materials in favor of naturally light or magically treated components.   1. All power generation in the Skylands is based on drawing energy from the environment without depleting it.
  • Solar sails and panels gather sunlight
  • Turbines turn to produce kinetic energy from the wind
  • Aetheric condensers collect latent magical energy from the atmosphere.
2. Materials and Construction   They only use lightweight, resilient, and renewable resources.
  • Lightwood: descended from the Fae World Trees. The primary construction material. A hyper-buoyant, fast-growing timber is harvested from floating forests. It is magically treated before use to enhance its strength, durability, and natural levitation properties. It is used in the construction of all Skyships
  • Bio-resin composites: this is used as a substitutes for heavy metals and glass. It is a translucent, strong polymer and is made from symbiotic cloud-fungus and is used for windows, structural joints, and transparent components; lightweight and shatterproof.
  • Woven crystalline fiber: it's used in textiles and rigging. They are incredibly strong, UV-resistant, and collect solar rays as well.
  • Faesilk: is a strong silk made of various spiderfolk from the Faewild; the Arafa Duzek is the main contributor. It is stronger, but more flexible than iron, with many of Mithral's qualities.
  • Lightstone: Much of the stone from the mountains that became the islands of the Skylands gained the floating quality. The reversed gravity effect from the wild magic storm altered how gravity affects the stone.
