Aethene Crystal

Written by Pookas Kreations

This is an igneous rock, subtype is intrusive (plutonic), and commonly found in hydrothermal vein deposits. It is a form of dark, smoky quartz unique to the planet Rukbat 3. Its anti-magic properties were latent until its sudden arrival in the magically charged environment of Aquatica.    In appearance, it is a translucent Smoky quartz with internal banding. Often with a dull, matte finish when excavated, but develops a faint blue-white internal luminescence when it is absorbing magic on Aquatical.   It is primarily composed of Silicaon Dioxide (SiO2), with trace inclusions of Vanadium, and Ferric Iron (Fe3+), for the smoky coloration, and its unique lattice structure. Often found around tectonic plate boundaries or massive geological faults.

Properties

Physical & Chemical Properties

It is a very hard, stable, and durable mineral, and immune to Thread, making it ideal for tasks where other materials can't be used.

Geology & Geography

Volcanic terrain

Origin & Source

Lava tubes channel the material from deep volcanic vents to the surface.

History & Usage

Discovery

When the Weyrs were originally cut from the

Everyday use

Aethene crystals can have many uses, some include:
  • sun glasses
  • building material

Industrial Use

They can also be used for focusing crystals, telescopes, and similar items.

Refinement

They need to be refined for use in industrial equipment.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

Broken pieces can be used in construction materials like concrete or in pottery.

Hazards

Depending on where the crystals are located, some of them redirect the heat that they absorb from lava flows nearby.

Reusability & Recycling

Broken crystals can be melted and recycled for reuse. Of course, it can only be melted by extreme heat like the volcano that created it.

Distribution

Trade & Market

They are rarely traded or sold off the island.

Storage

The crystals are rarely removed from the caldera, only those that are broken or in the way of current building projects.
