Morgana Deepsong

Morgana Deepsong is the daughter and only child of a siren and a triton. Her parents were deeply in love, and they did their best to give her a happy upbringing, admittedly spoiling her a little in the process. Her days were filled with fun, of swimming and playing on the beach, lounging in the sun and practicing the gifts her parents gave her. Despite only being half-siren, she still had a reputation for having one of the most beautiful singing voices on the island. Though Morgana had everything she could have wanted back home, when she turned 16, she decided she wanted to see the world. Her parents trusted her to be good and come back safe, though requested she write at least once every other week. She set sail and was on her own for the first time in her life.   Morgana quickly discovered that people outside Atlantis and Capri could be absolutely disgusting and would say repulsive things to her. She didn’t know how to combat these things right away, until she learned that these people, who originally didn’t seem to care what she thought, listened to what she said. She had power over them, though they didn’t realize it. And being young and inexperienced, she let herself have fun with it. If telling them to leave wasn’t enough, she would up the ante, telling them to embarrass themselves by doing foolish dances, saying outlandish things, throwing themselves into the sea, or even dumping the contents of barrels on themselves (her favorite was always the fermented fish of Sicilia). As she grew older and discussed these with her parents, she came to realize the nature of her power, and decided she wouldn’t do much worse than telling the person to leave unless they truly deserved a thrashing.   Though Morgana promised herself and her parents she wouldn’t misuse her natural gifts, she still often found herself causing mischief for her own amusement. One day when she was 20, a pirate captain saw the way she played a group of sailors like an orchestra, and decided he needed her on his ship. He promised a life of adventure, and the still naive Morgana agreed. From that day forth, she was a member of Captain Tobe Namedlater’s crew.   Initially, the captain wanted her as a Quartermaster or Second Mate, but it turned out she was really bad at enforcing rules; though they would listen to her, she rarely told them what to do. However, her gifts would not go to waste, as her sweet-talking abilities came in handy when interrogating enemies, allies, and fellow crewmates alike. She got results when she needed to. In addition to her vocal powers, Morgana was also an exceptionally gifted swimmer, moving through the water with the ease of a fish. This made her useful for scouting missions, and salvaging sunken treasure. As a result, she was treated very well.   Despite this, however, Morgana knew where her heart was. The crew were her friends, and she hated to see them mistreated. Because the higher-ups needed to keep her happy, and because they knew what she could do to them simply by asking, crewmates were rarely disciplined in front of her. She would look out for them, and they respected her for it. She was especially popular amongst other mischief makers, chief of whom was Princess. Though a hard-worker, she equally loved taking time off to relax, and was usually the first to start a sea shanty.   Morgana had friends on both sides, so the mutiny hit her especially hard. She tried to calm her crewmates, but their blood-thirsty, wrathful cries drowned her out. For once, her voice didn’t work. Princess took her by the hand and the two fled, jumping into a nearby dinghy. Before they left though, she called out to the first friend she saw, Lichen, and warned him to run. Last she saw, he grabbed someone by the hand and the two fled together, just like her and Princess.
