Breizhadu
Breizhadu is a magic island in the Faerie Sea, not far from the island of Tolkyn. It is known for its beauty and mystery.
In days of yore, Breizhadu had five kingdoms, the most powerful one being Ys. After it fell into the sea, the remaining kingdoms were abandoned. The people of Breizhadu have different opinions on monarchy and kingdoms, and these often vary region by region.
Geography
Breizhadu is a very geographically diverse land. The northernmost region is a frozen wasteland where life struggles to thrive, while a dark but beautiful forest thrives in the south. Most of the region consists of grassy plains and fields, with occasional swamps where hags are said to dwell. In the springtime, the fields are full of beautiful flowers.
Ecosystem Cycles
Breizhadu experiences four seasons, with cold winters, warm and pleasant springs, hot summers, and mild autumns.
Localized Phenomena
The Nocturnal Forest, located to the southeast of the island, is always dark. No matter the time of day, it always appears to be nighttime within its borders.
History
Long ago, Breizhadu was inhabited by the Nocturnals, magical shadowy humanoids who lived in the dark forests across the island. The Nocturnals were isolated and reclusive to the point where they were almost folklore to the people of the surrounding islands, with some going so far as to believe the mysterious people were a myth entirely, and the island was completely uninhabited. One thing that was common knowledge: the island had a very powerful magical aura.
It was this magical aura that brought a sizable portion of fairy refugees to the shores of Breizhadu following the Darkwood collapse. The first colony was established on the southeastern coast on the edge of what they later called the Nocturnal Forest, named not only after the island's supposed inhabitants, but also in reference to how dark it was no matter the time of day.
As the colony became more established, the settlers wanted to explore in search of new resources. In spite of their magical prowess, many of the fairy explorers found the new terrain difficult to navigate, and many parties frequently became lost. The farther the parties wandered, the longer it took for them to get home. One party even disappeared completely. A rescue party went out in search of the explorers, and eventually stumbled across a settlement deep in the woods. There, the rescuers found the missing explorers, who were alive and well. They were also shocked to learn that many of the shadows that inhabited the Nocturnal Forest were, in fact, the elusive Nocturnals.
The colonists sought to repay the Nocturnals for their kindness, and over time, an alliance formed between the two groups. They taught one another the magics of their homelands, and together, the communities became powerful spell casters. Soon, the lines between fairy and Nocturnal blurred. Then, one day, the first night elf was born.
Night Elves are the result of a union between a Nocturnal and a fairy. As the fairy colonists became more accepted into Nocturnal civilization, Night Elves became more common. Now, they are the native inhabitants of Breizhadu. Although the Nocturnals and the colonists are gone, their cultures are alive and well with their descendants.
As this new combined culture evolved, so too did the common way of life. In the larger settlements, Nocturnal chiefs became royals, a concept introduced by the fairies.
