The Free City of Khara (KA-rah)

The bustling city of Khara is one of the many free cities that together make up the nation of Oristhane. Vast bridges stretch inward to Hawkshead Island, the isle at the lake's center, while the bulk of this ancient city makes up a ring around the lake's edge. The lowland soil here is rich; farmland sprawls out beyond the city's walls.
  Khara is a hub of industry and tourism. The market for the Lischin-made ceramics crafted in Khara is a major source of wealth for the city, and the pottery trade draws in buyers from all across Aotra. Khara is also well-known for its fine wines and spirits, including the mild spirit made by fermenting khet, a popular traditional beverage made from blue-flower cactus pads and the nectar of the cactus' flowers.
