Daigonis Ūdris

The kalashtar sorcerer Daigonis "Dai" Ūdris is a revolutionary who survived human experimentation, participated in the reversal of the Severing, and spearheaded the ongoing governmental reform of the Federation. As of 718, he remains in a position of significant influence within the Federation, for he is a founding member of the New Federal Committee, on which he serves as the representative of survivors of human experimentation.

Biography

The Ūdris family occupied a position of political power in the city of Cethandir since Eridanis Ūdris, Daigonis' maternal grandfather, became a Tetrarch in 302 YC. By the time Eridanis was elevated to the role of Consul of the Federal Department of Weapons (DOW) in 523 YC, his only child, Isidora Ūdris, and her husband Silvis, were esteemed socialites. On the 37th of Nightwinter, 688, Isidora Ūdris gave birth to twins Daigonis and Exandris, her first children. The twins were both Otherborn, though this fact would not be known to their parents until a few years later; Exandris, who was born an aasimar, would never develop obvious visible indicators of his Otherborn status, and Daigonis' nature was undetectable as an infant, as is typical for kalashtar.   Later revelations cast suspicion on the circumstances leading up to Isidora's birth of Otherborn twins; the investigation into Project Vanguard led by Daigonis in adulthood uncovered evidence of illicit and secret experimentation on Isidora by Eridanis Ūdris. There remains no known viable strategy to guarantee or even increase the likelihood that a child is Otherborn, but the DOW was, under the direction of Eridanis Ūdris, funding attempts to invent such strategies, and records suggest that the experimentation performed on Isidora was likely intended as a test of one such strategy. It cannot be proven that the fact that she did give birth to Otherborn twins was not random chance.   Daigonis began to show signs of the psionic power associated with his kalashtar nature as a young child. This power first in the ability to give other people headaches and in minor telekinesis associated with bouts of strong emotion. When Daigonis was 5 years old, covert operatives from the DOW forcibly removed him and his twin, Exandris, from his family home, at which point the twins were separated from each other. Exandris would become a Vanguard Legionnaire. Daigonis spent the next 20 years of his life imprisoned in the Direhelm Federal Laboratory, a secret facility operated by the DOW and located deep in the inhospitable desert south of Cethandir. The rest of the Ūdris family, ashamed of their sons' Otherborn status, covered up the state's involvement in their sons' disappearance and asserted that their sons had perished in a tragic accident while the family was vacationing in Solisvar.   Daigonis was subjected to brutal experimentation, which included a program of near-starvation, and he was kept in a specially-designed cell fitted with magic suppression to prevent him from using his psionic powers on the guards, staff, and scientists of the facility. Documents discovered during the reform indicated that Daigonis was taken by the DOW to be made into a Vanguard Alpha, a process for which kalashtar were required and elves were near-exclusively preferred due to their long lifespans. But, for reasons that remain largely unclear, Daigonis was deemed unsuitable for Project Vanguard. Shortly before the Severing, Eridanis Ūdris signed a memo authorizing the transfer of Daigonis to a Department of Energy facility.   When the Severing struck, the Direhelm Federal Laboratory was badly damaged, as much of the arcane technology within the facility spontaneously detonated. With the magic suppression system offline, Daigonis was able to escape the facility alongside a then-unidentified woman known only as Seven, a temporary ward of the facility after she was found unresponsive in the desert outside the facility only two days prior to the Severing. Daigonis and Seven made a trek out of the nearly-apocalyptic Federation over the course of the next three years, during which time they, and the others they encountered on their journey, formed the group that would become The Consequences.   As part of The Consequences, Daigonis Ūdris was involved in the acquisition and release of a trove of documents detailing the Federation's centuries-long history of human experimentation and other rights abuses; the restoration of the Myth; and the restructuring and reform of the Federal government. Daigonis has remained involved in the operations of the New Federation. When the the New Federal Committee was inaugurated in 718, Daigonis was chosen as a representive of survivors of human experimentation. He has been observed to be closely involved with Novia Celsa, the former Magelord of Vay and current transitionally temporary Committee Representative of the Federal Government.

Personal Life

As of 718, Daigonis lives and works in Cethandir, which was made the capital of the Federation following the destruction of Vay Proper. Daigonis appears to have remained in contact with all members of the Consequences whose whereabouts are known. He is in a relationship with Avacian "Anarch" Voteporix, a survivor of Project Vanguard, former assassin, and affiliate of the Consequences.   Though most of his family is dead—many from the Severing, some otherwise—Daigonis has been in the process of rebuilding a relationship with the twin brother from whom he was separated in early childhood, Exandris Ūdris, who currently resides in Vassia, Ceryx, where he and his (both ex-Vanguard) partners, Alastair Grey and Lilyt Ūdris-Grey, serve as ambassadors on behalf of the New Federal Administration. Daigonis has also recently reconnected with a younger brother, Solanis, that was born to Silvis and Isadora Ūdris after Daigonis and Exandris were taken by the DOW.
