Introductory Overview: The Ascension Archetype system is the contemporary framework for classifying the specialized aptitudes and professional leanings of skilled individuals, particularly within the Adventuring field. This system categorizes all complex skill sets into five primary Archetypes: Authority (Leadership), Auxiliary (Support), Scholars (Knowledge), Mystics (Arcane), and Champions (Combative). These Archetypes represent the fundamental roles required for a functioning and secure civilization.
Within each Archetype are a number of Paths, which are specific professional leanings or roles. An individual's specific career or skill set is known as a Class, which often follows one or more of these Paths. It is common for a single Class to embody traits from multiple Archetypes (e.g., a Paladin Class may follow Paths in both the Authority and Champion Archetypes).
Section: The Five Archetypes & Their Paths
Section: Classification & Assessment An individual's official Class is determined by the ASOB through a comprehensive assessment process designed to identify their core aptitudes. This evaluation is known by the acronym S.T.A.T.E. (Skills, Talents, Alterations/Augmentations, Training, Experience/Equipment). The process involves a battery of practical tests (martial, arcane, academic, technical, survival, and social) and a series of in-depth interviews covering personal history, standard behaviors, family and professional history, and notable life events. This rigorous process ensures an accurate classification, which defines an individual's "ascendancy route"—their recognized path to gaining power and proficiency.

//>_ Hacker_Override_Initiated... Karckess on putting people in boxes. //>_ 'Ascension Archetypes.' Just a fancy new way for the suits at ASOB and Dryzor to slap a label on you. Are you a Boss (Authority), a Helper (Auxiliary), a Brain (Scholar), a Spook (Mystic), or a Hitter (Champion)? That's what it boils down to. It's how they build a better database to figure out who to send where to do what dirty job. But yeah, lots of ways to be a Hitter, 'cause this world's always got something that needs hitting.

//>_ Hacker_Override_Initiated... Karckess on the ASOB's big test. //>_ So how do you get your official 'class' title? The ASOB puts you through the wringer. They test everything you can do, from swinging a sword to hacking I.C.E. (Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics), and then they ask you a million questions about your whole life. They're building a profile on you, figuring out exactly what kind of tool you are and what jobs they can use you for. It's all about data. Your life, your skills, your trauma – it's all just data to them.
