Dragontooth Mountains

The Dragontooth Mountains are a vast range of peaks that stretch along the eastern coast of Eivrune, their jagged “teeth” cutting through the sky like a dragon’s maw. These mountains are a formidable obstacle for any traveler or adventurer, with treacherous terrain and dangerous wildlife lurking around every corner. The mountain range protects both the settlements within and the countries east of it. Despite the challenges, the Dragontooth Mountains have always been a hub of activity, with trade routes, mines and hidden settlements in the countless mountain valleys.

Geography

The mountain range spans hundreds of miles, running along the eastern coast and cutting a rough path through the landscape of the continent. Their steep cliffs, narrow, winding valleys and sharp peaks, which are usually covered in snow and ice, even during summer, define the appearance of the mountains. The highest peak is Mount Drakon, which belongs to the country of Celestria and towers the surrounding range with a height of 4572m (15,000 ft). The second highest peak, Mount Raven, also belongs to the country of Celestria and has a height of 3048m (10,000 ft).

Climate

The mountain range has a harsh, unfriendly climate. Especially the higher peaks have freezing temperatures, snow, and blizzards common even during summer. Mist and fog often shroud the peaks, making navigation difficult and dangerous, even for modern airships. However, the mountains also provide a vital source of water for the surrounding countries, with many rivers and small streams flowing down from their slopes.

Wildlife

The Mountains are home to a wide array of wildlife, from small rodents to the feral Mountain Wolves, that can easily reach the size of a small horse. There are also rumors that wild Nightmares live in the mountain range, as well as some wild horses that originate from a special breed and once belonged to the Order of Light and Shadow. In times before the Dragon Wars occurred, there were also dragons living in the mountains. Some adventurers believe that there may be remaining eggs in one or more caves within the mountains.

Culture

While the mountains are dangerous, and in higher regions straightway hostile, several civilizations and cultures have made the mountain range their home. The Diamond ore, precious gems and other rare metals have drawn the Dwarves to that region, who founded numerous strongholds, protected my rare magic and skilled warriors.

Human miners, druids and even some Elves have found their home in isolated settlements within those mountains, only leaving them to trade with the citizens in the surrounding lands. With the harsh climate, most inhabitants are isolated during the winter, and even spring and late fall. This leaves them sturdy, stubborn and independent. And, of course, fiercely protective about their homes and settlements.
