Session XII
General Summary
The party continues their journey through the Nivelline mountains.
Missions/Quests Completed
The party left Namthrom in the morning, continuing through the valley until they reached Hogh Doral mine. They entered the tunnels and traveled further south. They were now leaving the more settled areas of the mountains and the tunnels had become much less busy and not as well kept. The party soon arrived at an underground mushroom forest, with massive mushrooms on the ground and glowing ones on the ceiling, known as the Mycelium Cave. They heard the skittering of chitinous legs and found the corpse of a dwarf, which looked like it had had everything sucked out from underneath the skin. After a short argument when Melvin raised the corpse as his undead servant, they continued on their way, spotting massive insect creatures in the depths of the forest. However, they managed to sneak through the cave and arrived outside soon after.
The party entered the town of Thanorum looking for rest and supplies. They found a large inn, very different from the dwarven alehouses common in the other mountain towns, named Sal's Serene Saloon. The innkeeper, a south-islander with a thick Catancian accent named Sal, welcomed them and offered them his famous fish pies. After a short conversation with him, they found out he was indebted to a local ringleader named Ulrik the Arm, who was preventing him from fishing in the nearby lake for Redfinned Splitters, the specific fish he needs for his pies. In exchange for their help, Sal offered them enough supplies to get them the rest of the way through the mountains and information about the abandoned tunnels which they planned don traveling through.
The party used magic and trickery to convince Ulrik the Arm to sign a contract, giving Sal the rights to fish in the local lake, picked up their supplies, and quickly left Thanorum before Ulrik became aware of their deception. Sal kept his word and let them know what he's heard - the way through the mountains is through the ancient Halls of King Thomyor and his crypt. Apparently, the halls are protected by a puzzle, the answer to which lies in the story of King Sorrel's folly.
