Rurik Reinhild

Rurik has a bald head and a wrinkly face. A bushy grey moustache covers his top lip, but he wears no beard. His nose is quite small for a dwarf and his eyes are large and wise. His bushy eyebrows connect above his nose to form a form similar to his moustache. He looks very old, but his face is still very animated when he speaks.

Rurik was born to his father, Rurik the 1st, during the Golden Age of Ancaepya. His childhood was quite normal for a dwarven noble. He was taught history, languages, warfare, stewardship, and everything else a noble should know. He learned quickly and became the pride of his father.
Rurik was an avid student of Dwarven history and culture and quickly became obsessed with the Hammer of Thromneal. He spent a large portion of his early adulthood searching for it, adventuring through the abandoned mines of the Niveline mountains while his father ruled the peaceful region. During one such adventure word reached him of his father's death and he had to return home to take up his father's mantle.
On Rurik's 100th birthday King Minoses III Danothes of Ancaepya died, ending Ancaepya's Golden Age and beginning the Era of Strife. As in any era when the King's authority is questioned, the Reinhilds and Ingmars immediately descended into a bloody war, this time fought over the town of Khelgrom in the Nivelline mountains.
The town exchanged hands many times during the next 20 years of war until it was finally razed on Rurik's order. The move was strategic as he knew a large Ingmar army was approaching, bolstered with mercenaries who were promised the right to plunder the town as payment. Upon arrival, the mercenaries switched sides, joining the Reinhilds who smashed the Ingmar forces, earning Rurik his nickname.
He married the daughter of one of the richest Runesmiths thus securing his alliance with them. His son, Rurik, was as capable and smart as his father, but he has recently passed away after fathering a son and a daughter. Rurik's grandson, Vignar, has been described as a spoiled and incapable brat, while his granddaughter, Elres, seems to have inherited her grandfather's traits.
He has been a more than capable ruler, staying out of most political disputes and gradually increasing his family's wealth and influence. There hasn't been another major war with House Ingmar during his reign, but he is growing old and his eldest grandson's capability is questionable.
