Sehanine Godess of the Sea (Seh - ha - neen)

Lady Sehanine, She Who Sways, Sheperd of Ships, the Sky Scorned, is the Goddess of the sea. Symbolized by a pearl within a clam shell. She represents the seas, everything in it, and everything it does

She has few dedicated followers; most sailors of any nature will pray to her and give her offerings by dropping them into the sea as they sail. Any sea bearing druids and other aquatic races may actually see her as the only god worth any worship as she is thought to be the one that created them

Overview

Her alignment is Chaotic Neutral. Much as the sea itself can be calm and forgiving one moment and then storming with crashing waves the next. This is not due to a distaste to anyone or anything in particular, it is just the nature of the sea to be unpredictable. Although sometimes it is due to her disputes with Kord of the Sky

It is a love/hate relationship between the two. For them, what is a heated argument is seen as a horrendous storm with waves and winds that could send all but the biggest ships toppling over and their crews perishing down below. Believed that they were once together in a union and still believed to be in love, it is just a complicated love they share

Followers

She has few dedicated followers; most sailors of any nature will pray to her and give her offerings by dropping them into the sea as they sail. Any sea bearing druids and other aquatic races may actually see her as the only god worth any worship as she is thought to be the one that created them. While you may be able to guess a follower of her by pointing at any given sailor or someone who spends a lot of their time by the coast. It is quite easy to spot a highly devoted, as a common practice of them is to keep a chain of shells that they add to every time they set sail. It is also part of their practice to discard a shell into the sea every time a comrade dies while onboard

Omen

When She Who Sways leaves her vast empire of the ocean, the seas will stagnate. There will be an omen that serves as a warning before this happens, the shores of Amphalia will remain at low tide for a full 24 hours. In the next coming days, sailors and those that live along the coastline will experience an odd phenomenon where the water will be unmoved by the wind or tide, still and calm. This event is referred to as "Stillwater"

During this time, the water that makes up the seas will feel thicker. Not in a gelatinous way but denser, heavier, and more difficult to move through. Boats and ships that rely on sails will experience slower travel time. Those that rely on oars will notice that they have to put in a greater amount of effort on each stroke. Creatures of the sea will appear to behave normally and move as freely as they ever would. Moreover, items such as fishing lures, nets, or harpoons will be less effective. While able to pierce the surface and sink down, they just don't go nearly as deep as they were designed to making it far more difficult to fish for anything other than the surface level creatures

Return

When Sehanine returns to the water, it can simply be marked by the Stillwater ending, the waves returning, and the sea reverting back to its normal behavior. However, the Sea Goddess will perform an act of kindness that many would interpret as uncharacteristic of her. What was once considered lost treasures or relics, often personal to a specific person, will begin to wash ashore. Sailors and followers will take it as a sign for renewal, fresh starts, or a rebirthing

Those that own a ship will pull it into harbor so that it can get a full repair; new paint, every scuffed board replaced, new sails, until it looks as good as the day of its maiden voyage. Another practice for worshippers is to gather together, regardless of any prior relations or lack thereof, on the shore at sunset. They will each be carrying a large rock or small boulder with them. They wade out into the shallows of the tide and begin to build an alter by stacking the rocks and leaving their chains of shells pinned between the stones. This is to commemorate a fresh start and to future adventures on the sea
