A Children's Rhyme
This is taken directly from the video game The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. Specifically, the Hearts of Stone DLC
This rather morbid children's rhyme is one of the few universal rhymes on the continent. There are racial and regional variants in both common and specific languages however all retain the same themes.
Summary
His smile fair as spring, as towards him he draws you
His tongue sharp and silvery, as he implores you
Your wishes he grants, as he swears to adore you
Gold, silver, jewels – he lays riches before you
Dues need be repaid, and he will come for you
All to reclaim, no smile to console you
He’ll snare you in bonds, eyes glowing’, a fire
To gore and torment you, till the stars expire
Spread
This rhyme is never formally taught by adults and children seem to learn to learn it at an early age. First telling it usually around 5 years of age. By the start of puberty, the rhyme is often forgotten.
