The Regiment

The Regiment is the primary military force in the Kingdom of Chernaya, responsible for maintaining the Crown's control over its territories and defending against external threats. The Regiment's soldiers are frequently stationed at the borders of the Kingdom. These soldiers also play a crucial role in policing internal unrest, particularly in volatile regions like Waylan, and enforcing the Crown's Labor policies.   The Regiment is organized into several ranks, reflecting a rigid hierarchy that extends across its various deployments. The lowest rank is the Stelets, commanding a single soldier. Above them is the Desyatnik, who oversees ten men, and the Sotnik, responsible for one hundred soldiers. These ranks correspond to the Regiment’s monetary system, where copper, silver, and gold represent the rank insignias embedded into their uniforms. While there are elite units within the Regiment, promotions to these positions are as often the result of nepotism as they are of merit.   Headquartered in Sevgorod, the Regiment maintains a significant presence across the Kingdom with outposts in most towns. This extensive network ensures that the Crown’s authority is felt throughout Chernaya, whether through direct military action or the implied threat of it. The Regiment is often involved in operations against potential rebellions, as seen in the siege of Krezko where they prepared to use overwhelming force—including cannons loaded with alchemically infused "dragon-fire" provided by the Guilds—to suppress resistance.
