Airships
Among the various advancements made by the people of Altera, none have been more impactful than the invention of the Airships. Being one of the only means of traversing the vast distances between the floating landmasses that make up the continents of Altera, these airborne vessels have become an indespensable part of life for its people. Beyond opening new routes for trade and bolstering defences, the airships have become symbolic of the the Alteran spirit of exploration, as well as their ability to overcome adversity in whatever form it may take.
Utility
Airships fill a wide variety of roles in Altera, from military vessels, to merchant ships, to civilian freighters.
Manufacturing
While the exact materials and construction vary between ship types, the most common materials are Ironwood and Skysteel for the ships body, and Amber to fuel its systems. Additionally, airships can only be constructed in shipyards, which contain both the materials and the equipment neccessary to construct them.
Social Impact
Airships have become a vital part of life within the world of Altera, as the vast rifts between floating landmasses were nearly impassable before their creation. Through these flying vessels, the people of Altera are able to interact with the settled lands beyond their homelands, and the distant Shattered Lands were opened up to exploration by enterprising adventurers.
While it's not known exactly who first invented the technology behind airships, the two individuals most often credited are Thorsen of Ostra, and Photios of Tiria.
