Riverside
These waterways were at one point the most sought after and profitable property in the city. Waterfront property with pretty views over the river, luxury homes lining the water’s edge. However, as the city began to industrialize and the rich began to move in different directions, the area that was once a luxurious watery getaway has turned into a dingy slum.
The once pristine waters are now thick and gunky, caused by the pollution from the Industrial district dumping their waste water in with the natural water of the river. Over time this pollution built up, creating a less livable space. As the area became more desolate, the rich left and the poor moved in, seeing a new free space to take up and claim for their own.
Living by the river has its detriments, the most notable one being the overall level of cleanliness. Since the water is so dirty and polluted, those who have no other choice but to drink it almost always get sick, which hurts production of the city’s industry. The people here are also rarely ever clean, seemingly tainted like the river with pollutants.
