Grenagem
Grenagem is the largest city on the Iberian Peninsula, extending 2,400 square kilometers. The city is the seat of the expansive Grenagan Empire, benefitting from its imperial exploits. The population in the city exceeds 200,000, with gender proportions being roughly 68% men, 28% women, and 4% non-binary (though the Grenagan Empire does not recognize this gender identity). Of the men, 60% are of Tantani descent, 35% are native Grenagan, and 5% are from the Roza Islands. Of the women, 90% are native Grenagan, 9% are of Tantani descent, and 1% are from the Roza Islands.
The history of Grenagem stretches back to before the War of Continuity, though few historical records exist from this time (by design). The matriarchy first rose out of the wake of the war, in the year -50, before the official establishment of the Grenagese Empire in the year 0. In the current year 150, Grenagem has become a sprawling metropolis.
Much of the city’s industry and infrastructure is driven by innovative machines powered by Alumentum. This super-fuel, originally discovered in the Lousà Mountain Range, creates an efficient steam power when mixed with a saltwater solution. The search for more o)f the rare Alum drives Grenagan exploration and imperialism.
Imperial conquest has allowed the empire to gain control of the continent of La Tantani to the South, as well as the Alum-rich Roza Islands located about 1500 km to the West. The empire continues to expand, as exploration and colonization are still very prioritized. Grenagem has a practice in bringing children from their colonies to the city to train as merchants, laborers, and potentially politicians. The adults are also forced along, but integrated into the slums of the city, located by the Troco River.
