Book of Names
The Book of Names is less of a literal book and more of a contraption. This machine takes up an entire room within the Ministry of Records and is one of the most important elements of the Grenagem society. This machine holds the names of every child that the empire has created, as well as the jobs that they are assigned. Each child is assessed before birth to decide which job is assigned, and the machine keep track of each and every one in order to ensure that the order of the empire is maintained.
The machine does not only document names and occupations. It also documents family trees, ensuring that there would be no direct crossbreeding when creating future people in the empire in order to reduce the likelihood of birth defects, which would be a waste of resources.
As for the people brought into the empire, like the Tantani, the Book of Names must have them added within its database as well, for they are citizens of the empire and must be kept track of.
The machine also documents future breeding pairs, making sure to pair a set of parents that would create the optimal genes for a child needed for a specific job.
The machine is made up of about 5 screens, one large central one in the back of the room against the central wall, and 4 smaller screens that are mounted on the walls around it, 2 to a side. There is a large brass control panel before the largest screen, and on it houses a series of buttons and levers that would control the Book in a way that is needed. A typewriter-esque keyboard is set in the middle as a means of typing information into it directly. The screens and machinery that keep the Book up to date are connected by a series of brass tubes that line the walls of the room that it is in.
