Alum Bomb

No one knows how many of these devices may exist within Grenagem, or if any other than the one prototype apprehended by the Ministry of Jurisprudence two months ago. The Ministry has placed the discovery of any information relating to such bombs as its highest priority, setting police and informants to scour all criminal channels, searching for any related chatter. No word has been reported back yet, but who knows how long that will last?

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The bomb is made up of individual spheres of treated Alumentum held slightly apart from each other with brass banding. This separation is designed to maximize surface area and increase potency. The spheres and bands are all encased in a water soluble membrane allowing for transport. Once the membrane is submerged in water it allows the molecules to pass though, coming into contact with the Alum contained within. The Alum then reacts with the water producing massive amounts of heat, and without any control substances to mediate, or slow, the reaction, it chains until it is unstoppable. The heat produced flash boils the water, creating a large bubble of steam, which then billows out in a steam explosion. By this time, the heat will have melted the brass bindings, allowing the explosion to scatter individual pellets of Alum in every direction, encouraging smaller steam explosions wherever one lands in water, and shattering into dust wherever one lands on a hard surface. The idea is that the dust will seep into various nooks and cranneys and cause Aluma-rot in responders and survivors of the explosions.

Significance

Designed to subvert Grenagan combat superiority. If this bomb can be sneaked into an area with a substantial amount of water, saboteurs can cause huge amounts of damage.
