Rivervale Chapel

Spiritual Heart of Rivervale

One of the few entirely stone buildings in Rivervale, and certainly the grandest, the chapel contains shrines to Erastil, Desna, and Cayden Cailean. The local vicars hold services there, and the office of the beadle, Odger Bottomhill, is in a cottage adjacent to the small churchyard.

The chapel itself is famous for its colorful stained glass windows, its comfortable pews, and its cozy atmosphere. It is often said that the chapel is the "sitting room of the gods," intended for parishioners to feel as if they are chatting with family when offering their devotions.

Purpose / Function

Rivervale Chapel is the spiritual and social heart of the village of Rivervale. It functions as a place of worship, social center, almshouse, graveyard, and small library serving the community. While there are prominent shrines to to the deities listed above, any non-evil worship is welcomed.

Architecture

The chapel is the largest structure in the village, and the only one built mainly of stone. While impressive compared to other buildings in the area, it still has a remarkably homey feel about it.

The smooth, river-rock stones that make up the walls are supported with heavy wooden beams, giving the chapel a slightly softer and warmer feel than one with hard angles. The light from within spills through colorful stained glass windows, most of which are circular and depict cheerful farming scenes embellished with small religious symbols.
