Session 18: Roc the Birdge!

General Summary

In addition to some of the retcon and changes mentioned in Session 17: Mad Mage's Malcontent, the party also learned that the Cackled End was on Qualia's Most Wanted List. Whatever interaction Declan had with him must have been criminal. Additionally, Root realized that the Cackled End was the person who killed her former mentor.   Having encountered Vexx Shadowscales in Bastion, the party was ambushed by a Roc on the Bridge of Thalmoris, who was aiming straight for Goblin Ramsey. In a flash, Ramsey was knocked out and grappled by the bird, but the party fought hard to vanquish this Gargantuan Monstrosity.    They wasted no time ripping the beast apart for parts. Duckling took off its head and carried it on his back (it's very sad looking Vexx took a bunch of feathers; and Root carted off with talons.   Upon approaching the Gate at the City of Thalmor, the party bribed their way past the guards' questions, but did register some magical items, as per the rule of the Orthomancers:
  • Riftbinder Scepter
  • Wand of Tiberius
  • Phil, the Magic Orb
  • Scimitar +1
  • Mind's Eye Spade of Shielding
HOWEVER, next session a decision will have to be made regarding Snuffaluffagus' hand condition (700gp at Bastion, or 600gp at the gate, but more it could get worse in the travel time).   Once inside, the party made their way toward The Clipper's Toe, where they turned in the Wand of Tiberius, netting 6,000gp for their retreival. When Daman Soul saw the Riftbinder Scepter, he asked Wu if he could look it over until they depart the city again, giving him an additional 6,000gp as collateral for holding on to the magical item.   From there, the party went shopping at Rapi's Emporium and Tortle Soup and Other Remedies, purchasing some items along the way. Root ran into her friend, Pocket Possum who told her that fewer goblins have been seen in the Gap, and that it's quiet dangerous there. They also learned that Groot was set to await trial and potential execution in the keep.   In the city, the party also encountered Snuggly Duckling's family, the Humplebumples. Rumple, the father, shared that Duckling (who's real name is Gimble) was found in the Gap after a tribal slaughter had destroyed everything. Rumple, there on a quest with the Orthomancers, adopted Gimble and brought him into the family. From now on, the party may also refer to Duckling as Gimble if they dare incur his wrath. Rumple also decided to take Gimble's Roc head and turn it into a stuffed mount for a home, instead of putting them in a hotel.   Lastly, in their opening day in the City of Thalmor, the party secured passage to St. Leo on the Tidal Knave, helmed by Danton Hemd. The cost for a one-way trip is 25gp per person, 50gp for a round trip. This covers supplies for the journey, a crew crazy enough to staff such a venture, and the resources to guard against any potential dangers. The soonest the ship could depart would be the 9th of Palesun. However, seeing that the Letter found with Chaos Orb mentioned a meeting a few days after that date, the party decided to change their departure date to the 13th instead. This will give them a few days' of downtime to do things, such as:
  • Fight at the Clipboard (see The Toe of Tulkas)
  • Investigate the people named in the letter
  • Speak with Groot
  • Other inquiries that fit their interest
  • Speak with Lee Aflawn in one of the taverns that he's staying at
  • Snuff may purchase a prostetic leg for 100gp somewhere
Irregardless of what they do in the downtime, it just so happens that on the 10th of Palesun in the midday that the following occurred in the marketplace:
Wu, the chaos orb you feel suddenly begins to quiver and shake, as if with great eagerness...   Snuff, you begin to feel a headache rack your mind strongly with pain, as if with great dread.   Looking around, the rest of you notice a man, middle aged and wealthy, but strong. A man who may have some combat power but definitely retired rich, begins to drop to a knee, clutching his stomach in pain. He cries out, and from his sternum a small tadpole like creature bursts forth, Alien-style.   Another woman, a guard, does the same. Root, you would recognize this as a battalion that often does Gap duty and was brought back into the city.   And another. And another. In the space around you, at least a dozen people cry out in pain and where they once lived and moved and had their being... are slaadpoles.
Session ended midday on the 10th of Palesun.
