Lataglog

Bullywugs of Lathala

The Lataglog are a Magic wielding subspecies of Bullywugs native to the Lathala Wetlands, the marshes south of Char'wyn. The dwell in petty kingdoms below the floating island of Lathala in continual war, as each tribes tries to take dominance and unite the entire region under one bullywug kingdom. These bullywugs are peaces to outsider humanoids entering their domain, with the exception of Lizardfolk, which are hated among all others.

It is unknown how many tribal kingdoms dwell beneath the waters. Some claim a dozen, other hundreds. Bullywug never reveal their internal politics to outsiders. These kingdoms are not what one would traditionally associate with the term, with territory and cities. Rather these are mobile, establishing in one place for a time, but move when pushed out by another tribe. They then find a new location, often by pushing out yet another tribe. Lataglog will kill one another in their fighting for dominance, but avoid needless bloodshed of their own kind. Should a tribe surrender, they will be absorbed into the victor tribe. Should they flee, they are allowed to leave. The goal of every tribe is for complete control of the Lataglog people, not the slaughter of all but a single tribe.

Many of the larger floating islands have tunnels, o additional structures at their bottoms where the Lataglog dwell as long as they can control it. They marsh floor below the island is to soft and muddy to establish anything, but the vegetation saturated islands make for easy construction. In places these internal construction breaches the surface of the islands for access to the surface, but this is rare, to avoid surface dwellers access to their domains. A tribe will control a structure for a time, adding and modifying it, only to be pushed out by another tribe, who do the same. A continual evolution of the world of the bullywug.

Lathala is known to some in Char'wyn as the Magelight Marsh due to the Nura orbs the bullywug create and place in their underwater kingdoms. Most are unseen, being built into the island structures or deep below the waters. The shifting and evolving nature of the islands of the marsh, however, make it possible to see the glow of these lights from the surface on occasion. The Lataglog, use these lights as more art than out of necessity. Over time this has created an entire underwater world of light below the islands and within the tunnels and structures built into them.

Human of Char'wyn and the Lataglog have a friendly relationship for the most part. The bullywug, though rarely seen as far north as Port Lion, will travel into Char'wyn to barter for supplies. Providing the unique flora and fauna of their lands for supplies only the humans and the surface world can provide them. Some of the remote villages along Char'wyn's south have bullywug that visit regularly on festival days. These have also found help from the Lathala bullywug when their people are in trouble.

Lataglog speak a region form of Bullywug, which uses similar Bullywug words, but the sounds generate more in the mouth than the throat, making them sound softer and less guttural.
