Kallas

the Bard of Calamity

Kallas is perhaps one of the strangest documented Succubus. Where most of her kind are dark creatures of malice or despair, Kallas seems to be full of joy and a lust for life. She is known to travel the continent as a minstrel, sing songs and telling tales in taverns. By the time she moves on, the entire town, man and woman alike, has fallen into her spell of love and lust. In a twisted sort of way this creature brings a spark of energy to a town that it had lost in the drudgery of everyday life. It only cost the town a few souls.

Behind the chaos of a free-spirited girl traveling the world and bringing joy is a calculating manipulator, however. She watches the crowd as much as they watch her. Within a few hours at a tavern, she has learned who she can bend to her will quickly, and who to avoid. All the while she is looking for her victim. Her victims are not what most expect. She is looking for the evil men. Those men that will watch a pretty girl sing, dance, and bring joy, only to follow her into the night to do unthinkable things to her when she is alone. That is her victim, her prey, her plaything. It could take days or weeks for him to appear, but she will wait him out. She had been playing this game so long, she can usually spot the man and know his intent before he even realizes it himself. It doesn't matter that sometimes these men need a little nudge in the form of whispers in his dreams to set him on that path.

While she watches for her preferred victim, she will take on a lover or two to satisfy her cravings. It matters not if they are male or female. Though she seems more inclined to favor females as lovers. These lovers will find themselves weak and sickly for a time but usually recover when she leaves. Some she has even returned to when she passes through that town again. A rare few favorites she allows to know what she is and what she does.

Everything is not sunshine and roses with Kallas, however. She is after all a succubus. There have been entire towns that have fallen ill when she has stayed too long. All it takes is a flu to spread through the region and entire populations have been wiped out, too weak to fight the illness. She does not seem to care. It was their weakness that got them killed not her directly. She brushes off the dust of that town and moves on to the next. Evern her favorites have fallen victim to this lack of sympathy with they have grown too weak to sustain her.

Kallas does not pick her victims to rid the world of evil, or some other altruistic reason. She only finds them more fun to play with than the lovesick suitors. There is a danger to it, letting the men stalk her into a lonely dark alley to have their way with her. There is almost a lustful desire in her to see the look in their eyes when she reveals her true form. This thrill is also why she chooses to hunt in small towns, rather than large cities like the rest of her kind. Small town folks are more suspicious and superstitious. She is in far more danger of being exposed by someone. The danger of being caught, along with the rush of power she feels as she turns the town into her adoring fans is her highest pleasure.

Kallas seems to have a favorable relationship with her mistress Nyx. All succubi answer and obey the Aggoles unquestionably. Kallas does what she wants when she wants and doesn't care what Nyx or the others of her kind think. Perhaps Nyx has seen Kallas' love of being worshipped and found her a kindred spirit. Nyx has never reigned in Kallas as she has the other succubi.

Nyx has only called on Kallas' service a handful of times. Always to avenge a fallen succubus. Hunting succubus killers seems to be Kallas' favorite task. One she is decisively good at. The other succubi do not understand her easy victory over dangerous foes that know how to slay her kind. She never tells them. Only she and Nyx know, and Nyx answers to no one. One of Kallas' favorites, asked her this secret once. She answered with a giggle "My sisters have forgotten they have other weapons beyond their power to drain life. An arrow to the throat or a danger between the ribs work just as good. And it is kind of fun to see the eyes of these 'heroes' when they realize they are dying of such a mundane thing."
