Claratis Vines
Queen of Climbers
Claratis Vines, affectionately called the Queen of Climbers by Elf, is a climbing vine plant of Aldern that can only be found in Feywilds. It is one of the few plants species surviving into the modern day that dates back to the Time of Aterleg. Like many of the flora of the ancient world Claratis is heavily infused with the Anon (Magic). It takes the Kianon drawn up by the roots, and Solanon from the air to generate Daanan, that, in turn, sustains the Feywild. This effect causes the petals of the vine's flowers to emanate a soft glow. Once the flower reaches its end, at the end of a season, it will wither into a bulb of light, that will hang down off the branch. This bulb will eventually fall to the ground as a seed. There are eight different varieties of Claratis vine, which can be differentiated by the color of the flower. Each grow under different conditions. Most grow naturally around trees, climbing up into their branches to hang off of. It is this nature of the vine that brought about the moniker 'Queen of Climbers'.
Elf and Fairy favor the Claratis as a decorative plant. They will be strung along, and allowed to grow, around homes and along streets of elven towns. An elven tradition across Ethae is to have entrances to communities marked with these vines weaved into an archway. Some of these Claratis weaved archways are so old and thick, small animals make their homes within its core. Something the elves encourage.
The Nymph of Southern Jerain consider these vines as sacred as their trees. They allow the vines to grow naturally throughout their forest. However, they will not allow the Claratis to climb their tree. They will gently guide the growing vine in a new direction, towards other nearby trees. Some consider this one of the best ways to find a nymph tree. It will be in a grove of Claratis covered trees, with the center tree untouched.
