Arsis
of the Four Ports of Ubara
Arsis is the youngest of the Four Ports of Ubara, founded by the United Kingdoms of Novyum as a naval base when Gold was discovered in the Whidel's Wall mountain range. The project, headed by the wealthy Arsen Family, was planned to build a citadel on the large rock island at the mouth of a natural bay. The deep-water bay would be the staging ground for the United Kingdom's navy in Ubara's Arm. The causeway built to transport construction material to rock island proved difficult to maintain and was forced to be expanded several times during the construction. This led to damage in the bay. In the end the causeway remained a permanent feature of the site and was expanded to include the fortress town that now resides on it. Though the bay's use for anchoring ships was lost, it led to the expanding of viable docking space for a naval port.
After the decline of the United Kingdoms the Arsen family had to fight to maintain control of the navy and their town. The first decade of the Novyum Civil War saw turmoil across the north, including Lechlan. In Arsis, several mutinies on ships as well as in the city itself caused chaos. As the primary naval port for all United Kingdom ships in the Aabanu Sea, conflicts arose between ships of rivaling nations. The Arsen family was largely held under siege in their citadel until order could be restored. The other three of the Four Families, fending off crisis of their own in the early years, were finally able to rally to liberate the city and the Arsen. The Arsen family holding their fortress for a decade under constant threat of assassination and starvation is a matter of honor for the family and the Lechish citizens of the town today. It is this reputation that is the backbone of pride for the modern Lechish navy to be led by such a strong family.
It is said that from the from the top tower of Arsis's citadel one can see Grafi on the far coast of the Arm. This viewing distance has given the Lechish advanced notice to several naval attacks in the past, keeping the northern waters of the Arm some of the safest travel seas on the continent.
