Madryn

Madryn snuck into the forest one night to watch the Koaneg Eskern tournament. Then, she was simply Princess Madryn, next in line to the throne of Belisama. Elcu and Madryn who were only a few years apart, were forbidden to go. Elcu listened to her parents but Madryn did not. Madryn would go into the forest with some friends, where she would encounter a double walker on the way home. She was nearly killed and suffered massive head trauma from an axe- her friends ran off without her, though one other was killed, and the only reason she made it out was because Aethelred had been attending the match.   Madryn was given steel implants in her skull, having suffered brain damage, as well as a replacement cybernetic eye. This put the Odonata in the debt of the Belenakos, and although they were glad Madryn was saved her memory and movement were impaired. It was estimated it would take five or six years for her to fully recover. In the meantime, Elcu was put through rigorous training to become an heiress as they had completely written off Madryn. In fact, Madryn's cybernetic implants had been a blessing to her but a curse to the rest of her family.   It was planned that Madryn should have spent the rest of her life in a comfortable setting, away from the stress of politics and war. However, after Elcu was made Queen, she disliked that her sister should live a cozy life just because of her injury. She made Madryn Earlen of Sinderfall while trying to find someone willing to wed her.   At first when being rehabilitated into royal society Madryn was obedient and seemingly uncaring of her role, acting as a pawn in the chessboard. However once securing Sinderfall and giving birth to her first heir, went against every one of Elcu's decisions. She got rid of every Clockmaker guild and banned members and families from entering Sinderfall under punishment of death. She made irrational trade decisions and bought questionable resources from the south, earning herself the nickname 'The Gossip of Sinderfall'. When a tragic fire broke out due to the celluloid garden she had built and a series of mining accidents followed, Elcu had her deposed and sold her title and land to anyone willing to marry her and be done with it, not having any suitable relatives to take over. Through a deal with @Zakiyah of Deywos, she was married off to Bartholomew

Madryn was sent along with her sister to study at one of the children's schools the Beltane Clockmakers ran. There they were taught basic geology, uses for quartz, and given aptitude tests to see if they were suited to join the clockmaker guild as adults. Elcu hated it, finding the machines' inner workings frightening. Madryn was endlessly entertained and came home wanting to join the guild. Madryn's continued interest in quartz-driven technology would become troublesome for their family, and they became suspicious that the Belenakos clockmakers were instilling propaganda into their schools.   The school was eventually shut down after a lengthy fight with the head of the Clockmakers to change their curriculum. Madryn and Elcu were then taught by a Dolomedes magus named Aethelred, an apparent longtime friend of the family. He taught them mostly agrarian tactics not used in the city- how to hunt, how to track in a forest, how to train a bird and check for an old mine shaft. They were both quite fond of Aethelred, and Madryn would miss him during his travels.   Madryn was seventeen when the accident occurred, and she did not go for further schooling after that. She spent a lot of her time reading what was in the hospital library, but any knowledge she gained was at the hands of the other hospital patients and stuff, many of which were Belenakos or Clockmaker guild members.

In her youth in Sinderfall, to liven it up she invested in celluloid gardens, beautifully sculpted and painted to resemble plants from the south. She did not know they were flammable, and one hot summer day her entire court garden went up in flames, causing massive destruction to the castle and parts of the town. Days later, there was an unrelated mining explosion in Sinderfall resulting in dozens of deaths, and with the castle in ruins and a chunk of her working population dead, Elcu intervened. It was the singular most humiliating thing she had encountered during her time as ruler and not only was she arranged to marry a man after that, he was given power of succession over her- meaning he would choose who inherits Sinderfall and be crowned as Earl. This gives him the right to divorce Elcu and remarry.

Madryn dislikes thinking about the Koaneg Eskern Tournament, as it is where she got her horrible injury, but at times is required to go to the events. She never goes without two bodyguards and often with an entourage, making her seem very high-profile and invested in the cause- whereas she is usually the exact opposite.   She also cannot stand the smell and sights of the ocean, which is where she was often placed to look out at during her time in the hospital. Her dislike for forests and oceans makes her seem by default anti-agrarian, and has caused her to have a certain reputation.
