Horfheiger Standingloaf, once a distinguished soldier from Bridgeport, boasted an enviable moustache and unparalleled skill with rapier and spear. After years of valiant service on Farenia's battlefields, he retired from military life, only to find himself yearning for adventure.
Driven by boredom and a thirst for excitement, Horfheiger embraced the life of a pirate. He set sail with a loyal crew, equally eager for exploration, and established a base camp on the shores of Kamonson. However, the rigours of sea life took their toll, leaving the once-dashing warrior somewhat portly and unkempt. Yet, his commanding presence still demanded respect among fellow buccaneers during raids on merchant vessels in Alana's waters.
Horfheiger now captains the sloop Geertruud, named after the inspiring explorer Geertruud Smallbottom. Armed with 16 formidable cannons, the vessel instills fear in the hearts of both merchants and coastal towns. A crew of 75 fierce cutthroats, loyal only to their captain, man the ship, ready to protect it and seize valuable cargo at all costs. Despite numerous attempts by bounty hunters, the Geertruud remains one of the most dreaded ships in Kamonson's waters, with Horfheiger at the helm, commanding through a potent mixture of fear and respect.
Farenian Sea, close to Kamonson - One balmy afternoon, whilst sailing the high seas in pursuit of fresh escapades, Horfheiger spotted a sizeable merchant vessel laden with precious cargo. Without a moment's hesitation, he launched an attack, cannons roaring! After successfully commandeering the ship with minimal casualties on both sides, Horfheiger and his motley crew began rummaging through the hold, keen to uncover any treasures worth nicking or flogging at dockside markets.   Right at the fore, standing apart from the rest, they stumbled upon a peculiar barrel marked "valuable". Oddly enough, its lid was peppered with tiny holes. As his crew prised it open, they were gobsmacked: out popped a petite, auburn-haired female gnome! Horfheiger was instantly smitten with Geertruud. However, after a fortnight of her calamitous antics, he found himself at his wit's end. In a fit of exasperation, he unceremoniously deposited her on a secluded beach near Land's End, bidding her a rather brusque farewell.   -- unknown pirate historian
The infamous Geertruud, a pirate ship owned by the notorious Horfheiger Standingloaf from the city of Kamonson, has been terrorising merchant ships and coastal towns for years. The vessel is said to be incredibly well-armed with an impressive array of cannons and other weaponry that have allowed it to outgun most ships in its path. Its crew is made up of ruthless cutthroats who are loyal only to their captain and willing to do anything he commands.   Though Horfheiger's reign has been long and successful, there are those who seek retribution for his numerous atrocities throughout the region. Several bounty hunters have attempted to capture or sink the Geertruud, but none have succeeded so far due to its superior firepower and manoeuvrability on open seas.   Even so, many people believe that Captain Standingloaf will be brought to justice one day as more brave people take up arms against him for revenge or glory. It is still unclear whether anyone will be able to stop him before he does more damage along the coasts of the Farenian Empire.
A world full of wonders.

I love his mustache, both in the description and in the picture, and I love that he named his ship after Geertruud. That was a nice touch for someone who's been reading about your world for a while and remembers Geertruud well.
