Entertainment District
The Entertainment District is a district in Qarah's Dream. It is far away from the Housing District, to avoid noise complaints. The Entertainment District is the most popular tourist destination in all of Aj'kar, and for good reason: sports, festivals, troubadours, bards, brothels, inns, and all sorts of talent shows are only some of the things that one is able to enjoy there. Surprisingly for Qarah's Dream, some of the activities found there can be afforded by even to the poorest of people, allowing them some respite from their hard lives.
Locations
The Entertainment District is very large, and houses a great number of services with prices adapted from poor to aristocratic lifestyles. However, there are also buildings that go beyond even that; the cream of the crop, the kind that only the richest can afford. Those are the buildings referenced here; it is assumed that any visitor will be able to easily find the cheaper services of the District.- Sweet Dreams Inn: The rooms of this inn are specifically enchanted so that its customers can sleep even through the noise of the city, and wake up feeling refreshed and happy. It hires specifically trained mages that make sure that nothing goes wrong with the many enchantments there. One night in a room costs twenty gold pieces per person, and includes breakfast in the morning.
- Ocean's Waves: This all-inclusive bathhouse-and-spa offers all sorts of services that makes sure their customers will exit their premises clean and happy. Their water is enchanted to ensure that its effects linger for a long period of time. One hour in those baths costs five gold pieces; this doesn't include being served food or drink, but it does include towels and the safeguarding of personal goods.
- Wet Dream: This brothel is able to cater to all tastes, except those that are illegal in Qarah's Dream. Has very strict rules put into place to avoid problems, but their workers are also the best this city has to offer. The workers there charge a flat rate of ten gold pieces per hour, and per worker.
- Luck of the Draw: This gambling house offers all sorts of games of chance for their customers to play, and hires many guards to make sure that nothing goes wrong. There is an entrance fee of five gold pieces, though a lot more money is likely to be lost (or, perhaps, gained) within the premises.
- Gallery of Greater Arts: This art gallery houses the most famous artworks in all of Aj'kar. Statues, paintings, and even more abstract art are all welcome here. Though officially this art gallery does not allow customers to purchase the exhibits, patrons willing to spend a lot of money are sometimes allowed to bypass this rule.
- Jester's Delight Theater: A massive, prestigious indoors theater known for hosting all manners of plays and musicals. Because such things would either be illegal or unwelcome in other continents, this theater is particularly well-known for its satirical plays - much to the chagrin of some. Always heavily staffed with private security for exactly that reason. Admittance varies, but goes from five gold pieces to twenty, depending on what is being played and what sort of seat is bought.
- The Swift Auction: This auction house sells all sorts of items, often magical in nature, but always very, very rare. They are known to hire adventurers to fetch them the very rarest objects across all of Aj'kar. Though standing in the gallery is free, few are those that have the coin to afford the items being sold there.
- The Colosseum of the Gods: This arena is never without some sort of show on, though the vast majority of it are sports of various kind. On the 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, and 60th of every month, tournaments are held within the premises. They are mostly fighting tournaments, though great displays of non-lethal magic are also sometimes held, as well as the occasional physical activity like races. To sit in the gallery costs three gold pieces per day; the fees for participating, as well as the prizes, depend on the tournament.
