Assembled Monastery for Spiritual and Historical Knowledge
The Assembled Monastery for Spiritual and Historical Knowledge (often just called "the Monastery") is a discreet building in the Religious District of Qarah's Dream. It is a place of worship only in the loosest sense. Instead, the united worshippers of Scrios and the Teacher work towards their god's chief command: to find, unearth, and catalogue all of Aj'kar's hidden knowledge. Their main area of focus is the ancient history of the world.
In order to achieve this, the Monastery's structure supports a variety of jobs, as explained below. Generally, missions are accomplished alone, though there is no stigma against taking other people along. Should one have need to communicate back with the Monastery, especially for a difficult or dangerous mission, they have a few sending stones that they can lend out.
Branches
The Monastery is divided into four branches. All branches have a single supervisor, called an Assembler, who receives the reports of every other person in their branch. The hierarchy is otherwise flat; according to the Monastery, this is to prevent power struggles and jealousy when one should be focused on their mission.- Seekers: Seekers travel the world and explore ancient ruins in order to find buried lore or ancient artifacts.
- Eyes: Sometimes, knowledge must be extracted more discreetly. Eyes are effectively spies, working in the shadows to extract information or lore from people or places that would be otherwise reluctant to do so.
- Archivists: The Archivists translate, organise, categorise, and manage the vast collection of books and scrolls that the Monastery already possesses.
- Enlightened: The Enlightened study the ancient martial arts taught by the Monastery, and serve to defend its interests from outside forces that may seek to harm it.
Current Assemblers
- "Lock", the Assembler for the Seekers. A tough-looking Loxodon, this man loves nothing more than to risk his own life to find ancient artifacts.
- "Reed", the Assembler for the Enlightened. No one knows her real name, nor her real age. Some say she has been there for centuries, despite being human.
- "Flower", the Assembler for the Archivists. A quiet, unassuming Firbolg with a tendency to fuss over organisation and putting books back correctly.
- "Secrets", the Assembler for the Eyes. This Tiefling woman has seen a meteoric rise through the ranks of the Monastery due to her willingness to use unconventional tactics to gather information.
