Southwest Cladelands

In the south-west of Ladonia, the seas grow cold with a chill that radiates from ice-sheathed. A dense wall of mist rises on the border with the warmer north. Close to the southwest islands, pack ice grows thick.   Tall spires of stone rise from the pack and stab into the dense, dark clouds above, thick with snow and hail. Thick drifts of snow and heavy, glacial plates cling to the dark flanks of the mountains, giving the Silver Skerries their name when the sun peeks through and lights the ice from within. Hidden under the glaciers and the stone, silver, lead and tin are the wealth of the Skerries.   The bruken of the Skerries are carved into the peaks and glaciers, while far below, the armoured prows of great ice carvers slice through the pack to reach harbours on the shore below each bruken. Vast, elegant chain elevators run up and down deep-cut glacial chimneys in the mountain flanks, carrying goods and passengers between the coast and the bruken, the greatest of which is the high bruke Amatis.   Further south, the pack becomes an unbroken sheet, from which the flow-locked backs of the Glacial Chain rise up. Swift ice schooners cross the sheet ice, darting between blades of jagged rock and deep crevasses. This is the land of the white Dragonborn.   The bruken of the while clade are fashioned from the chain's only building materials: black stone and white ice. Those which sit on the ice itself lack even a stone foundation. Below the broken, the stone of the Chain is honeycombed with mines, from which the islands' wealth in opals is extracted. To prevent the collapse of the bruken, the worked-out tunnels are back-filled with ice. The high bruke of Glaucis sits at the edge of the ice on the northern shores, and offers the largest harbour in the Chain.
