Creator Gods

The creator gods are born from the confluence of divine energy and divine will. They are not typically born from a divine egg. Instead, the flow of energy into a World Wound pools and clots, and instantiates a divinity of great power, instilled with the drive to preserve the harmony of the World. Because of their great initial power, these Young Gods can invest the huge amount of divine energy needed to create a Mortal Lineage, thus guaranteeing them a steady and lasting return on their investment. While the sacred behaviours taught by a Culture God may provide the god with energy, all of the actions of a lineage are intrinsically sacred to their creator or creators.   Most, but not all, creators retreated to the Firmament after creating their lineage, and then forged an afterlife for the faithful.   Because they have their intrinsic bond with their creations, creator gods are rarely god of much else. In cases where multiple creators cooperated in the act of genesis, each may have another broad field of interest, but nothing compared to the multiple aspects of many, if not most, culture deities.   The bond between a creator and their creation is not easily broken. All the works of a lineage are effectively sacred to the creator, although prescribed ritual, sacrifices and piety of action all increase the degree of power that members of the line provide.   Only a truly epic act can sever the connection entirely. The orcs slew their gods to break the bond forever. Tzerini died to save the halflings. Humans appear to have no bond to a creator, although no history records why.   A creator is under no obligation to reciprocate worship with favour. Indeed, the fact of their inalienable source of power often makes creators singularly miserly deities, with no cause to bargain for that which they can gain purely from the existence of their creation.   The first creator gods settled their lineages in the Aiaorian Era, between the end of the Colossus War and the Cataclysm. A second wave of creations followed after the Cataclysm.

Gods of the First Creation

  • The Dark Lords were the divinities who fashioned the Orcs to be their conquering Legions. After the Cataclysm, they remained in the world as red (or, they would probably have claimed, black) deities, until they were overthrown by their own creations in The Uprising.
  • The Five Who Make (Founder-of-Flesh, Builder-of-Cities, Far-Walking-Hunter, Song-on-the-Waves and Flame-in-Shadow) created the four kindreds of the Elves.
  • The Seven Ancestors were the divine progenitors of the Dwarfs. They not only took on material form and remained incarnate after the Cataclysm, but also allowed themselves to become subject to the passage of time. Considered black divinities, they have long since passed their power into their bloodlines and died.
  • The First Teacher and their fellows created the tortles, and set them on their journey of self-discovery.
