The Cleansing is no singular event but a collective term for the turbulent times triggered by the fall of the Empire of Carodin. The expulsion of old elites still loyal to the Olidäe led to power shifts, instability and to the divergence of the successor states. Bloody cultural and racial conflicts followed quickly afterwards and often raged on for decades.

The Fall of the Empire of Carodin triggered a political upheaval on all levels of the realm, leading to the expulsion of those elements of society that stood loyal to the Olidäe. Without a centralized gouvernment, the situation quickly spiraled out of control and developed into massive cultural and racial clashes. Those events are known as "The Cleansing" to the successor states of the old empire, who started to break apart from this point onwards. Every nations defines the events that happened during this time differently, shaping the narratives in any form that was needed to legitimize their own claims. "The Cleansing" is neither a set number of events nor is it possible to define a single starting or end point. Some areas experienced turmoil for decades while others stabilized relatively quickly. The different narratives of the successor realms in tandem with bloody conflicts of the time led to "The Cleansing" beeing used for all kinds of claims and purposes. Many wrongs and old grudges (real or not) are based on or attributed to "The Cleansing", often without evidence.
